Indianapolis 500 race results for the Indycar Series
Today, Indianapolis Motor Speedway hosts the ‘Greatest Spectacle in Racing’. It’s the famed Indy 500 for the Indycar Series.

7-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson is in the field. He’s making his Indianapolis 500 debut.
The field lines up in rows of three. Scott Dixon, Alex Palou and Rinus VeeKay set the front row. 200 laps and 500 miles of racing are up next…
Indy 500
Race Report
Green flag, Dixon is clear at the starting line as Palou tucks in on his gearbox. Palou has a run off turn two, he clears Dixon into turn three, Palou leads.
Lap 2, Dixon blocks the inside on VeeKay. VeeKay moves to the outside in turn one and drives right by to take 2nd.
Lap 5, Dixon retakes 2nd.
Lap 8, Palou pulls inside into turn one. It looks like he lets Dixon drive by on the outside. The teammates are trading the lead to save fuel.
Lap 17, Palou returns to the lead as Dixon lets him by down the back stretch.
Lap 21, Palou pulls to the inside heading into turn one. Dixon to the lead on the outside. The teammates continue to trade the lead.
Pit stops
Lap 30, Dixon pits from the race lead. Palou pits a lap later. Dixon cycles out ahead of Palou with VeeKay right on the gearbox.
Lap 34, Palou drives around the outside of Dixon.
Lap 35, VeeKay has a run on Dixon into turn three. Dixon blocks the inside and VeeKay drives by on the outside. Palou has cycled back to the race lead.
Lap 39, VeeKay is in the wall! He got loose in turn two and slammed the wall. VeeKay is done for the day.
Green, Palou leads Dixon into turn one.
Lap 48, Dixon drives around the outside of Palou to retake the lead. O’Ward slips passed Ericsson for 3rd behind them.
Lap 68, Palou leads Dixon by 1 second.
Pit stops
Lap 69, Dixon pits from 2nd. Herta comes in as well, he’s fighting major handling issues in his backup car.
Lap 70, Callum Ilott is in the wall after suffering oversteer in turn two! The caution is out! Palou hits the pit lane but the lane was already closed, he rolls right through the pits.
Palou is forced to return to the pit lane for emergency fuel, no tire change allowed. He’ll serve a penalty and drop to the rear regardless.
A lap later, the rest of the field hits the pits as the lane is now open. O’Ward wins the race to the pit exit. Dixon cycles to the race lead as he pitted just before the caution.
Green, Dixon leads Conor Daly into turn one. Daly is lifting to stay in 2nd and save fuel.
Lap 80, Daly has a huge run off turn four. He cuts inside to take the lead.
Lap 81, Dixon returns to the lead.
Lap 83, Dixon lifts and Daly returns to the lead. Dixon takes it right back.
Lap 100, Dixon leads Daly by 0.5 seconds. Dixon is no longer saving fuel.
Lap 105, O’Ward has a run on Daly. He dives inside to take 2nd away.
Lap 106, Romain Grosjean suffers oversteer in turn two and he slams the wall. The caution is out and Grosjean is done for the day.
Pit stops
Dixon leads the field to the pit lane. Daly has cycled to the lead as he pitted just before the caution.
Green, Dixon has a run on Daly. O’Ward has a run on both of them! They run three wide for the lead, O’Ward is clear into turn one. Dixon and Ferrucci run side by side through turn one, Dixon holds him off.
Lap 114, Dixon has a run on O’Ward into turn one, clear. Dixon to the lead.
Lap 137, Colton Herta heads to the garage. Indycar has parked him for being too slow.
Pit stops
Lap 141, Dixon pits from the race lead. A lap later, Daly pits and he cycles out right behind Dixon.
Lap 146, Pato O’Ward cycles out ahead of Dixon following his pit stop. O’Ward takes over the race lead.
Lap 152, Scott McLaughlin is in the wall! The caution is out.
Green, Dixon has a run on O’Ward into turn one. He looks to the outside and drives right by. The field fans out four wide behind them.
Lap 161, O’Ward has a run on Dixon off turn two. O’Ward to the lead into turn three.
Lap 165, Dixon has a run off turn four. He clears O’Ward into turn one and retakes the lead.
Pit stops
Lap 173, Rosenqvist is the first car to the pit lane.
Lap 175, Dixon pits from the lead and he locks up the tires at pit entry.
Penalty: Dixon is caught speeding and he’ll serve a pass through penalty!
Lap 178, O’Ward heads for the pit lane. Felix Rosenqvist cycles out ahead of O’Ward.
18 to go, Marcus Ericsson has a run on O’Ward into turn one. He drives right by. This is the battle for 7th now as 6 cars have yet to pit.
11 to go, pit stops are complete. Ericsson cycles to the lead. O’Ward trails by 1 second.
7 to go, Ericsson leads O’Ward by 3 seconds.
6 to go, Jimmie Johnson is in the wall off turn two and the caution is out! They’ve thrown the red flag is out to make sure the race finishes under green.
Green flag with 2 laps to go, Ericsson snakes down the front stretch to break the draft. O’Ward runs 2nd. Kanaan drives around the outside to take 3rd away in turn one!
1 to go, O’Ward has a run into turn one. He pulls alongside but Ericsson holds him off.
Sage Karam crashes off turn two, the caution is out.
Marcus Ericsson wins the Indianapolis 500!
