On Sunday, NASCAR visited the 1.55-mile of Texas Motor Speedway. In the final stage of the race, drama ensued between playoff drivers Denny Hamlin and William Byron.

With 73 laps to go, Hamlin and Byron raced side by side for 2nd. They were inches apart exiting turn two. As they fought for space, Byron brushed the outside wall.

Hamlin lifted, evident by the backfire from the exhaust pipes. He lift Byron room off the corner, but Byron still tagged the outside wall.

Just 6 laps later, race leader Martin Truex Jr suffered a flat tire. He spun and tagged the outside wall.

The caution was deployed. Yet, Byron stayed in the throttle pedal. He climbed to the bumper of Hamlin and spun the No. 11 through the infield grass, several seconds after the yellow lights blinked along the catchfence.

It was a clear retaliation.

After Hamlin exited the grass, he passed the field under caution and tried to blend back in the 2nd position. Byron sped up and passed him back.

Hamlin then leaned on the bumper of Byron under the caution laps. It appeared that he tried to spin him out but Byron never spun.

At this time, NASCAR informed Hamlin that he failed to meet minimum speed under the caution. Per those rules, he would be unable to retain the 2nd position.

Hamlin was relegated deeper in the field for the upcoming restart. Byron wasn;t penalized, at the time and maintained the 2nd spot.

Denny Hamlin comments

Denny Hamlin was surprised Byron wasn’t penalized but noted over the team radio moments later, “I’ll give him the penalty if he comes back to me.”

“If you’re going to allow it then I’m just going to get all my teammates to take out all the competition under caution,” Hamlin told Bob Pockrass.

“I guess we can just wreck each other under caution,” Denny Hamlin also told NBC Sports.

”I don’t think we touched, I gotta look, “Hamlin added of the initial incident off turn two.

“It all just works itself out. We’ll be racing each other at some point and he’ll lose a lot of spots because he’s racing me. This is hard racing. I’m fine with hard racing.”

“Yeah, he ran me out of room, bent the toe link and we’re lucky we finished,” William Byron told NBC Sports after the race.

“Again, it’s not like it was light contact. I thought we were going to be done.”

Byron noted that the contact under caution was deliberate. However, he stopped short of saying he purposefully spun him.

“Obviously, yeah. I went to go show my displeasure. I didn’t mean to hit him and spin him out.”

We’ll talk, we’ve never had issues, so I didn’t really get it. But, I’m not going to be like, ‘Oh, I don’t normally have issues with this guy, I’m not going to be mad about it.’ It was uncalled for and I feel like we handled it.”

“I was just trying to give him a light tap there, nothing molitious,” Byron later told Bob Pockrass of the incident under the caution. “You see it happened all the time.”

“When we were in the tower, we were paying more attention to the actual cause of the caution up there and dispatching our equipment,” Scott Miller stated.

“The William Byron, Denny Hamlin thing, we had no eyes on. We say Denny go through the grass. By the time we got to a replay that showed the incident well enough to do anything to it, we’d gone back to green.”

“But, I’m not sure that issue is completely resolved as of yet. So, we’ll be looking at that when we get back work.”

“We’re going to work through that,” Miller concluded.

Any penalties would be announced on Tuesday or Wednesday in NASCAR’s weekly penalty report.

On Sunday, the NASCAR Cup Series unloaded in Fort Worth, Texas. The 1.54-mile oval of Texas Motor Speedway hosted the opening round of the Round of 12 in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. Both Denny Hamlin and William Byron are playoff drivers.

Watch the Denny Hamlin vs William Byron video below.

With 73 laps to go, William Byron and Denny Hamlin were in a battle for 2nd. Hamlin worked to his inside into turn one. He cleared him through the center of the corner but Byron rolled the outside lane and pulled to the rear rear of Hamlin off turn two.

As they exited turn two, they came within inches of each other. It doesn’t appear that any contact was made. However, Byron knocked the outside wall hard off the corner.

In that situation, the exhaust backfired from the exhaust pipes on Hamlin’s machine. That showed that he lifted.

Still, Byron bounced off the wall and went onto defense. He emmidelty turned down the track and sidedrafted Hamlin all the way down the backstretch. Byron pinched Hamlin’s entry into turn three. As they fought, Austin Dillon drove around both of them on the outside.

Byron spin Hamlin under caution

With 67 laps to go, race leader Martin Truex Jr picked up a flat tire. As spun, hit the wall and brought out the caution.

Seconds after the yellow lights came on, Byron was still in the throttle. He drove into the rear bumper of Hamlin off turn four, despite the caution. Hamlin was sent spinning through the infield grass.

At this point, Hamlin wasn’t done. Under caution, Hamlin re-joined the field in the 2nd position. NASCAR disallowed that move noting Hamlin failed to maintain speed.

Byron then passed Hamlin, under caution. At that point, Hamlin had enough and he began pushing all over the rear quarter panels of Byron, under caution in a possible attempt to spin Byron out.

Kyle Busch reacts

Kyle Busch was the first car out of the race after hitting the wall in turn four. However, he reacted moments after Byron spun Hamlin under the caution, “No penalty for this?! Depends on who you are I see.”

Kyle Busch is currently a teammate to Denny Hamlin. However, it was recently announced that he’ll join Richard Childress Racing in 2023.

#11 team radio: “I haven’t seen a replay of it. But, good grief, but if he’s mad about what happened off of two, you got tight underneath him.”

The team added, “How do they not put the No. 24 to the tail for that? I mean, good grief, the man wreck you under caution. That’s not a penalty. What are we doing?”

Denny Hamlin responded over the team radio, “I’ll give him the penalty if he comes back to me.”

“Yeah, he ran me out of room, bent the toe link and we’re lucky we finished,” William Byron told NBC Sports after the race.

“It was really hard contact. It wasn’t like just a light contact. I didn’t mean to spin him out over there but I’m obviously pissed off. I’m just not going to get run like that.”

“We’ve always raced so well together. So, I don’t know what it was all about. The No. 19 took his air away, so he ran out of race track. So, he chose to run me out of race track, completely.”

“Again, it’s not like it was light contact. I thought we were going to be done.”

Was the spin under caution on purpose?

Byron was asked if he ran into him on purpose off turn four.

“Obviously, yeah. I went to go show my displeasure. I didn’t mean to hit him and spin him out.”

“There’s a ton of guys that do this and go do something like that, and do it all the time. But yeah, I’m just not going to get run like that.”

“There’s really no reason. We’re running 2nd and 3rd, I think. Had a shot to win and killed our car, for sure. That was a bummer.

Byron was asked if he’ll talk to Hamlin.

“Yeah, I guess so. We’ll talk, we’ve never had issues, so I didn’t really get it. But, I’m not going to be like, ‘Oh, I don’t normally have issues with this guy, I’m not going to be mad about it.’ It was uncalled for and I feel like we handled it.”

“I guess we can just wreck each other under caution,” Denny Hamlin stated. “I tried to wreck him back

“But, I don’t think we touched, I gotta look, “Hamlin added of the initial incident.

“Obviously, he threw us through the infield, under caution.”

Hamlin was made aware that Byron intends to have a conversation with Hamlin.

“I keep hearing these guys. But, I’ll just add it to the list of guys, when I get a chance, they’re going to get it.”

NASCAR didn’t issue a penalty to either driver during the race. However, the official penalty report isn’t issued until Tuesday or Wednesday. Though in this case, a penalty isn’t likely.

Hamlin adds Byron to the list

“It all just works itself out. We’ll be racing each other at some point and he’ll lose a lot of spots because he’s racing me. This is hard racing. I’m fine with hard racing.”

Hamlin added, “But, wrecking me under caution is not what we were bargaining for. It cost us all our track position, I thought we were in a great position to win.”

Hamlin has already issued payback to Ross Chastain for contact earlier in the season. Hamlin grabbed the win at Pocono but was later disqualified.

“If you’re going to allow it then I’m just going to get all my teammates to take out all the competition under caution,” Hamlin later added to Bob Pockrass.

“I mean, this is what we chose, right? It’s funny, every week because we got something new that is laughable. But, just add this to the list.”

Natalie Decker rejects NASCAR’s Adam Levine meme https://racingnews.co/2022/09/25/natalie-decker-rejects-nascars-adam-levine-meme/?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=FBGroup%20NASCAR%20Cup%20Series%20Racing%20News https://racingnews.co/2022/09/25/natalie-decker-rejects-nascars-adam-levine-meme/#respond Sun, 25 Sep 2022 11:37:00 +0000 Shane Walters https://racingnews.co/?p=103272 NASCAR driver Natalie Decker steps up to show disapproval

Natalie Decker currently competes part-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Adam Levine, the lead vocalist of Maroon 5 and currently host of ‘The Voice’ has landed in America’s latest viral scandal.

Model Sumner Stroh posted a video on TikTok that quickly went viral featuring screenshots of DM’s from Levine.

Levine is currently married to Behati Prinsloo. They have two kids with an expecting third on the way.

Levine addressed and dismissed the possible scandal

“A lot is being said about me right now and I want to clear the air,” Levine wrote in an Instagram Story in as he dismissed claims he stepped out on his marriage.

“I used poor judgement in speaking with anyone other than my wife in ANY kind of flirtatious manner.”

“I did not have an affair, nevertheless, I crossed the line during a regrettable period in my life. In certain instances it became inappropriate; I have addressed that and taken proactive steps to remedy this with my family.”

Stroh

Stroh made sure to mention that she was involved with a man “who is married to a Victoria’s Secret model.”

Like that’s somehow relevant to anything? As expected, most of the public view has backfired as people are thinking more about the family of Levine, especially his wife, given the situation.

She added, “At the time, I was young, I was naïve and quite frankly I feel exploited. I wasn’t in the scene like I am now, so I was definitely easily manipulated.”

Days later she added, “I’m not the one getting hurt in this. It’s Behati and her children. And for that, I’m so, so sorry.”

Yet, in the videos, Stroh showed screenshots of the conversation between her and Levine. Those conversations show mutual flirting.

The screenshots of the conversation show Levine saying, “It is truly unreal how **** hot you are. Like it blows me mind.”

That screenshot in particular has become a meme. It’s been used all across the internet and this is where NASCAR comes in.

NASCAR posted the image and captioned it, “When drivers see the flames in Texas Motor Speedway Victory Lane.”

To add context, this weekend, NASCAR is racing at Texas Motor Speedway.

Texas TV Schedule: September 2022 (NASCAR)

Natalie Decker comments

“This should be deleted,” Natalie Decker responded to the tweet.

“Show Behati Prinsloo and her kids respect! Other women and children are going through the same thing and this is mocking every women/child that’s experiencing this as well.”

Decker added, “There are other ways to be trendy on social media.”

Several users jumped in with various opinions.

Decker responded to a user that thought it was funny. She said, “You are part of the problem… you have no respect for women if you think this is funny.”

And another user had the same opinion but added that it wasn’t about her.

Decker responded, “No it’s not about me… but I stand up for women!”

Decker concluded, And this is disrespectful and I won’t be silent about it. If you cheated on your beautiful wife (in your profile picture) and we all mocked it… would you still think it’s funny? Would she think it’s funny??”

Kyle Larson wants Texas Motor Speedway demolished; Short track https://racingnews.co/2022/09/24/kyle-larson-wants-texas-motor-speedway-demolished-short-track/?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=FBGroup%20NASCAR%20Cup%20Series%20Racing%20News https://racingnews.co/2022/09/24/kyle-larson-wants-texas-motor-speedway-demolished-short-track/#respond Sat, 24 Sep 2022 19:51:42 +0000 Shane Walters https://racingnews.co/?p=103317 NASCAR driver Kyle Larson is highly in favor of tearing down Texas Motor Speedway and replacing it with a new short track

Texas Motor Speedway was born in 1997 as a 1.5-mile intermediate oval. It’s hosted the NASCAR Cup Series and Indycar Series along the way and both racing series remain on the schedule.

In 2017, the track underwent a reprave as well as a slight reconfiguration. Banking in turns 1 and 2 was reduced from 24 to just 20 degrees. A the same time, the width of that corner increased from 60 to 80 feet.

Just a few months ago, Auto Club Speedway announced plans for their last race on the 2-mile oval. That facility is set to become a short track if the proposed plans are finalized.

Auto Club Speedway set for final race on 2-mile oval

Atlanta Motor Speedway is another property, like Texas, owned by Speedway Motorports LLC. The Atlanta facility debuted with a brand new repave for 2022. They went a totally different route, increasing the banking as well as narrowing the track. Additionally, NASCAR used a superspeedway style rules package to create a hybrid Daytona or Talladega style of racing, the first of it’s kind for a 1.5-mile track.

Atlanta Motor Speedway: New vs Old track by passing data

Rumors are circulating that Texas Motor Speedway could see another repave. Despite the last one just five years prior. And many of those rumors hint that Texas Motor Speedway could adopt a similar repave to Atlanta.

However, the drivers aren’t interested in that. Specifically, Kyle Larson, who wants a short track…

“It needs more than a repave,” Kyle Larson stated from the Texas Motor Speedway media center.

“I would like them to demolish this place, first. Then, start over from scratch.”

“For one, they did a very poor job, with the initial reconfiguration. I would like to see them change it from a mile-and-a-half to something shorter, I don’t know if that means bringing the backstretch in or whatever.”

“I mean, if I could build a track, it would probably by a 3/4-mile Bristol, basically. Pavement, progressive banking and all that.”

Bristol Motor Speedway is a half-mile concrete oval. It was previously paved in asphalt but has been a concrete surface since a repave in 1992.

Larson concluded, “But, I don’t know if that’s really possible, here. I’m not sure what they have in mind but anything would be better than what they did.”

The complex build of Texas Motor Speedway has placed a bit of a box in regards to reconfiguration options. Buildings surround the speedway, everything from grandstands, a party tower, a campground and a condo tower. All of those things are placed at the outer edge of the racing surface.

The buildings specifically make it extremely costly to shorten the track. Any repave would likely have to come close to all of those buildings, or the buildings would now longer have a great view of the racing surface.

The NASCAR Cup Series playoffs will continue this weekend in Fort Worth. Texas Motor Speedway is set to host the first race in the Round of 12.
