On Saturday night, NASCAR raced at Kansas Speedway. It’s not common for a car to get upside down on the 1.5-mile track but that’s exactly what happened.

Watch the Carson Kvapil crash video below.

On lap 2, Carson Kvapil ran three wide through the middle off turn two. He had Justin Allgaier to his outside and William Byron to his inside.

Off turn two, they ran out of room. Kvapil was clipped in the left rear by William Byron. Kvapil spun across the track and into the outside wall.

As soon as the car made contact with the outside wall, he was struck by Parker Retzlaff. The combination of impacts allowed air to get under the car.

With air creating lift, he went airborne. The car spun multiple times while on it’s roof.

Add a couple barrel rolls and the car finally came to a rest minus a bunch of pieces.

The driver remained inside the car until the safety team arrived. They flipped it back on it’s wheels and the driver was able to climb out.

William Byron stated over the team radio, “Sorry about that. I knew we were three wide late. But, I was already coming off the corner.”

NASCAR commented, “Carson Kvapil was evaluated and released from the infield care center after this incident.”

Carson Kvapil comments

“Not too fun,” Carson Kvapil told CW Sports after getting checked at the care center.

“I actually didn’t think it was going to flip over like that. But, once it started doing that, it didn’t;t really seem too bad.”

“My biggest thing is I hate it for this team. I was just hoping to get through the first couple laps, sort it out and fall in line. We didn’t really get to that point.”

“It was one heck of a ride. I was not ready for that. That was a pretty big one.”

“I thought we were all pretty aggressive to start. Thought the No. 88 was going to stay behind me, probably.”

“It seems like the top really has some good grip. I was probably going to move up in the next corner and block runs.”

“But, the No. 7 got outside of me off turn two. I guess the No. 88 didn’t know we were three wide or got me with the air. Just got tight and it didn’t work out.”

Tomorrow, the NASCAR Cup Series will race at Kansas Speedway. William Byron is in the field to conclude the race weekend.

Kyle Busch threatens Denny Hamlin after comments on his performance https://racingnews.co/2026/04/18/kyle-busch-threatens-denny-hamlin-after-comments-on-his-performance/?utm_source=newsbreak&utm_medium=newsbreak&utm_campaign=newsbreak https://racingnews.co/2026/04/18/kyle-busch-threatens-denny-hamlin-after-comments-on-his-performance/#respond Sat, 18 Apr 2026 23:04:56 +0000 Shane Walters https://racingnews.co/?p=140114 Read more]]> “I can certainly make his life hell.”

Kyle Busch has spent the last 24 years racing in the NASCAR Cup Series. He’s a two-time champion of the series (2015, 2019).

The 40-year-old driver has collected 63 race wins throughout his hall-of-fame career. Those tallies place him 9th on the all-time wins list for the NASCAR Cup series. Ironically, that’s just two wins ahead of Hamlin.

Beginning with the 2023 season, Busch has been driving for Richard Childress Racing after departing Joe Gibbs Racing. He picked up three wins in his first season with the new team.

Busch reflects on ‘false promises’ after leaving Joe Gibbs

However, since 2024, Busch has gone without a trip to victory lane in Cup Series competition. And, week after week, there’s new radio chatter between Busch and his team showing clear signs of frustration.

Hamlin is a former teammate of Busch at JGR. He shared some comments amid the recent struggles…

Denny Hamlin comments on Kyle Busch

“As a driver, you gotta make up the difference,” Denny Hamlin stated via his Actions Detrimental podcast.

“You’re the one that sends the team in a direction. It’s just my opinion, and Kyle Busch, I can’t hold the guys helmet, talent wise.”

“But, I just think this is not new. He’s struggled for five years now. We just have to be honest about our expectations. If you’re expecting Kyle Busch to just go back to victory lane on a regular basis, you are kidding yourselves and you’re going to be very disappointed.”

“Until we change cars, or something has to change. I don’t know what, I have no idea. I’m not in his shoes, I’m not his crew chief, I’m not his engineer and I’m not his team owner. I’m not in the weeds, I’m just a podcaster who happens to be on the racetrack around him.”

“I can just say that it’s not working. And I don’t have the answers.”

“What happened to Jimmie Johnson? He went from kicking our ass every week. To all the sudden, not winning. Immediately, it was like a light switch.”

“Sometimes the light switch goes off at different times.

“He’s right there with Austin Dillon in points. No matter what the cars are, he should be, at minimum, 5 spots ahead every single week. Because he’s one of the greatest. Or was one of the greatest.”

Richard Childress: “We gotta get some damn racecars. I’ve seen enough out of drivers and teams. We got to work on this shit. Period.”

Kyle Busch responds to comments from Denny Hamlin

Kyle Busch is far from happy about the comments above from Denny Hamlin. Ahead of this weekend at Kansas Speedway, Busch responded…

“If Denny wants to switch cars, I’ll switch cars with him any day of the week,” Kyle Busch told Jeff Gluck in the video below.

“I would love for him to show me that he can carry it better than I can.”

Busch stated of social media comments, “I’ve consumed some of it over time and I’ve consumed that 80% of it people don’t know what the hell they’re talking about.”

“In this instance, I don’t feel like Denny Hamlin even knows what the hell he’s talking about. So, he can bash me all he wants.”

Busch added, “I can certainly make his life hell.”

Denny Hamlin reacts to threats from Kyle Busch

After Busch made the comments above, Hamlin has responded:

“Not really sure what I’m supposed to do,” Hamlin opened via X.

“I host a podcast and I have to answer questions about relevant topics. Should I just say I dunno, everything seems fine to me? Not sure where he felt I ‘bashed’.”

Hamlin concluded, “Im walking a damn tight rope here.”

Hamlin and Busch take the green flag in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway on Sunday.

On Sunday, the NASCAR Cup Series raced at the famed Bristol Motor Speedway. Billed as ‘The Last Great Coliseum’, it’s a half-mile high-banked oval track in the hill of Tennessee.

Related: Bristol Race Results: April 12, 2026 (NASCAR Cup Series)

The track has seating for approximately 150,000 race fans. For Sunday’s race, many fans had an entire row to themselves due to the lack of attendance.

In the past, the place was sold out. It hosted two races per year and for the Night Race in the Fall, there was a significant wait list, just to be given the option to get tickets.

The Tennessee facility had an incredible sellout streak that lasted 55 NASCAR races from 1982 to 2010. Changes to the sport, the cars and the track itself have resulted in a steep decline in attendance.

Fans were quick to pick up on the empty seats. And it also caught the attention of former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield…

Jeremy Mayfield comments on Bristol attendance

“Check out what the NASCAR grandstands used to look like when I raced at Bristol,” Jeremy Mayfield opened.

“When the biggest story is how many people are staying home to watch a golf tournament in Georgia, the sport is in a coma.”

“Ty Gibbs gets his first win in front of 100,000 empty seats. It looked like a COVID era race out there.”

“If the ‘World’s Fastest Half Mile’ can’t out draw a Sunday at Augusta, then NASCAR has officially lost the south.”

“Is it the car? Is it the drivers? Or has the ‘Colosseum’ just become a graveyard? Tell me I’m wrong.”

The Southern All Star Racing Series visited Winder-Barrow Speedway on Saturday night. The track is a 3/8-mile dirt surface in Winder, GA.

The Dirt Late Model division battled for a $5,000 to win check in the main event. Things got out of hand in a hurry after a big pile up crash.

Jamie Oliver went over to the No. 24 of Payton Stevenson to have a chat. He stuck his head inside the cockpit of the No. 24 car during the red flag.

A man in a vest then came running from the pit area. He tackled Oliver at full speed.

This wasn’t over with. Another driver, Nicholas Fulcher came running across the track. He tackled the guy in the vest.

“I appreciate it Nicholas Fulcher, old boy had that dam vest on like a track official took me a minute to figure out what was going on,” Oliver stated via social media.

It sounds like something from Weaber Valley Speedway. But, it happened on a Saturday night in Georgia.

Cleetus McFarland denied by NASCAR https://racingnews.co/2026/04/07/cleetus-mcfarland-denied-by-nascar/?utm_source=newsbreak&utm_medium=newsbreak&utm_campaign=newsbreak https://racingnews.co/2026/04/07/cleetus-mcfarland-denied-by-nascar/#respond Wed, 08 Apr 2026 02:47:59 +0000 Shane Walters https://racingnews.co/?p=139795 Read more]]> “I have been denied by NASCAR”

YouTube star Cleetus McFarland just made his debut in the NASCAR O’Reilly Series at Rockingham Speedway. This comes after multiple starts in the ARCA Menards Series as well as a start in the NASCAR Truck Series.

With near 5 million YouTube subscribers, McFarland brings a unique audience along with him for his NASCAR ventures. He can drive but his lack of racing experience has caused some controversy within the industry.

On Saturday, he entered the O’Reilly race at Rockingham in a car fielded by Richard Childress Racing. He started 35th, spun out multiple times and finished the race in the 32nd position.

McFarland had another deal lined up with RCR but it was pending NASCAR approval. He was set to run at Talladega SuperSpeedway on April 25th.

Cleetus McFarland signs with Richard Childress Racing

On Tuesday, NASCAR has denied that request. McFarland took to social media to address that ruling.

Cleetus McFarland comments

On Tuesday evening, McFarland commented after the ruling from NASCAR…

“I wanted you to hear it from me first that I have been denied by NASCAR to run Talladega in my O’Reilly’s car,” McFarland stated via social media.

“I made my O’Reilly’s debut last Saturday with hopes of getting approval for Talladega. But, they did not see enough.”

“Granted, it was a pretty hectic race. I tried to pass someone three wide on the third lap, spun out. Spun out a few more times. Didn’t crash or crash anybody. But still, it was pretty hectic.”

“NASCAR has said, ‘We’re going to need to see you run more ARCA and more Trucks. I’m fully approved for Trucks. Which I have some of those coming up on my schedule. But, in O’Reilly, I am still limited to short tracks.”

“All-in-all, this opportunity landed about two months ago. We came up with the idea of running a SuperSpeedway. I’ve only been racing NASCAR for one year.”

“It was never my mention to go out, climb in an O’Reilly car and get to the top as fast as I can. But, we figured we’d try. And, we didn’t get approved.”

“I need more windshield time. I got a lot to learn. So, this isn’t as much as a step back as or a push down as it seems. A little bit of a kick in the nuts.”

“I just gotta get out there with other cars and do as much learning as possible. Then, hopefully I’ll get to run Daytona and Talladega next year.”

McFarland is set to run in the ARCA Menards Series on April 18 at Kansas Speedway and April 25 at Talladega Superspeedway.

On Friday night, Williams Grove Speedway hosted a night of dirt track racing. The high-speed half-mile dirt track in Mechanicsburg, PA welcomed 410 sprint cars.

Anthony Macri was involved in a scary accident as he flipped from the race lead during the 410 sprint car feature event.

The No. 39M machine bicycled on the cushion while racing through lap traffic. The car hooked right into the outside wall. He landed on top of the wall.

The car was then sent into a series of flips across the track. The driver was transported to the hospital after the crash.

Watch the Anthony Macri crash video below.

Anthony Macri: Medical Update

On Saturday afternoon the team shared the following update:

“Following last night’s incident at Williams Grove Speedway, Anthony was transported to the hospital for evaluation.”

“He has been diagnosed with compression fractures of T4 and T5. At this time, there is no confirmed timeline for his return to competition, as he will undergo further medical evaluation and follow-up care.”

“Anthony and the entire team would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the support, messages, thoughts, and prayers received.”

“Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”

Macri posted a photo from the hospital bed. He was seen wearing a brace to support his back.

Last year, Macri was sidelined after a crash at Eldora Speedway in Ohio. That crash also resulted in a T4 fracture.

On Friday, the NASCAR Truck Series returned to Rockingham Speedway. The race ended with a thrilling final-lap battle to the finish.

After the race, cars must clear tech inspection. And, we have problems…

Chandler Smith has failed to pass post-race tech. Per the rules, he has been disqualified and will be credited with a last place finish.

Per a NASCAR release, “Officials ruled Smith’s truck failed to meet post-race rear body inspection height requirements.”

The No. 38 Front Row Motorsports team suffered a mechanical failure before the race. The team replaced a broken shock after qualifying and that forced him to start the race from the rear of the field due to unapproved adjustments.

He drove from the back of the field to cross the line in 4th.

Smith entered the race weekend at the point leader. He would have earned 33 points today and held the point lead.

Instead, he’s leaving a single point earned. Kaden Honeycutt is now the point leader.

Next weekend, the NASCAR Truck Series drivers will return with another short track event at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee.

Failing tech inspection on the first attempt generally isn’t a penalty. However, these teams failed on their first attempt through inspection at two consecutive events, which is a penalty.

NASCAR has docked 10 minutes of practice from a 1/3 of the field for these consecutive inspection violations.

Teams penalized (parked for 10 minutes of practice): Brenden Queen, Justin Haley, Corey LaJoie, Clayton Green, Frankie Muniz, Timmy Hill, Layne Riggs, Kris Wright, Justin Carroll, Caleb Costner, Christian Eckes, Ben Rhodes and Tyler Ankrum

All of the teams above were able to clear tech on their third attempt through the line. For them, there will be no further penalty.

NASCAR Truck Series drivers will take the green flag in the race this afternoon.

On Sunday, the NASCAR Cup Series races at Martinsville Speedway. The half-mile oval is known for causing tempers to rise.

Watch the video below.

With 77 laps to go of the 400 lap race, Carson Hocevar was sent by Bubba Wallace. It started in turn three as Hocevar blocked the inside lane.

Wallace lined up his rear bumper and shoved Hocevar into the corner. But he wasn’t done. Exiting the corner, Wallace gassed it up and drove into the left rear of Hocevar.

Hocevar and Wallace both spun exiting turn four. They created a parking lot as the field drove into the scene with nowhere to go.

10 other cars were collected in the crash.

Cars involved: Bubba Wallace; Carson Hocevar; Austin Dillon; Daniel Suarez; Chris Buescher; Austin Hill; Riley Herbst; Zane Smith; John Hunter Nemechek; Erik Jones; Michael McDowell; Connor Zilisch

Clint Bowyer added from the broadcast booth, “That was definitely on purpose. That wasn’t a big enough block to warrant that. There’s more to that story.”

Kevin Harvick added, “He was mad!”

Carson Hocevar comments

Hocevar stated over the team radio moments after the incident, “I just tried to not run over him. Got destroyed. That’s frustrating.”

The Spire Motorsports team responded, “You caught him sleeping, he left it open. Then he just ran over you, he lost his mind.”

Hocevar was able to continue the race after the crash. However, he had heavy damage on the left rear.

Bubba Wallace comments

“I just misjudged,” Wallace told Fox Sports after exiting the care center.

“I didn’t appreciate the three wide into [turn] one. Which is fine. Then, I misjudged the center of the corner but I didn’t mean to turn him.”

“What a frustrating day, with so much expectation. We can win Saturday in practice, we just don’t show up on Sunday.”

Wallace was done for the day due to damage sustained in the crash.

Update: The race has since concluded.

On Saturday, IndyCar Series driver were on track at Barber Motorsports Park. It was the second round of practice at the Birmingham, Alabama facility ahead of this weekend’s race.

In the closing minutes of the practice session, Scott McLaughlin dropped a wheel at corner entry. The car jumped around and he was sent flying backwards at a high rate of speed through the sand trap.

The car caught air as it went through the sand. McLaughlin was launched upwards over the wall and into the fencing. The car almost went fully through the fence on the impact.

“Tire touched the grass,” the driver stated over the team radio as he sat parked in the fencing. “I’m sorry.”

The corner entry speed was roughly 150mph. At the time of impact with the fencing, McLaughlin was traveling backwards at roughly 50mph.

Seconds after the radio transmission the safety crews were on site. The driver climbed out on his own.

Scott McLaughlin comments

McLaughlin was quickly checked and released from the infield medical center.

“I knew I was done. I dropped the right rear, spun and just tried to brace myself,” McLaughlin told Fox Sports.

“I think the crash looked a lot worse than it felt. I feel like we can get this thing fixed and I can go ship it again.”

“I just wanna go out and go for pole. Just get in the car and get going, I can’t wait.”

“I feel good and love this place.”

“I dropped the right rear, spun and I was flying backwards. Then I ended up halfway through the fence. I’m really upset more for my team than anything.”

“The way it slipped through there, it might be okay. I’m very thankful for the safety and whatnot.”

He added, “I made a mistake and need to be better.”
