Kevin Harvick entered the race with 50 playoff bonus points. Now, two NASCAR Playoff contenders Harvick and Erik Jones have left the racing surface on the hook.
On lap 148, it all went wrong. Harvick was in the 7th position at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He just moved by Jimmie Johnson when the tire exploded.
Harvick was struggling with handling issues after the last pit stop on lap 113. He wasn’t sure why he was having issues but he knew it was related to the tires.
“There was something wrong from the time we put the tires on,” Kevin Harvick stated to NBC Sports after the crash at LVMS.
“It’s like Russian Roulette every time you put these piece of crap tires on and try to drive around the race track. One time it’s tight. One time it’s loose. One time they’re blistered.”
“we had a great car. Then you put a set of tires on and you can’t even hardly make it through the field. I just hate it for everyone on our Mobil 1 Ford.”
“I’m not happy about anything right now.”
Erik Jones is also a playoff contender. Now, he’ll find himself at the bottom of the points sheet at the teams head to Richmond Raceway next weekend.
“It’s unfortunate. We were going to finish top 10.”
“Nothing Kevin can do. And nothing we can do. We didn’t have any bonus points and we’ve got some work to do now.”
“I saw him blow the tire. But, I had already committed to the top. We had been running up there. Unfortunately, it’s hard to get slowed up and get to the bottom when you’re carrying that much speed.”
