Track officials are attempting to bring back single groove racing. PJ1 has been installed on the bottom groove. At the same time, they’ve completely washed off the second and third groove.

In the opening round of practice, we saw everyone stick with the bottom lane. That’s not likely to continue as the weekend rolls along.

Chase Briscoe will pilot the #36 in this session. Matt Tifft is feeling under the weather and the replacement drivers is temporarily in the cockpit.

Final Practice – Report

Duration: 50 minutes

Kevin Harvick is making a long run early in this session. Unlike the opening session, he’s not glued to the bottom. Harvick concludes this run just under 50 laps. He spent a bulk of it in the middle and high side of the race track.

Earlier this week, Matt DiBenedetto announced that he has lost his ride for 2020. This will be his final season in the Leavine Family Racing #95.

However, Bristol is DiBenedetto’s best race track. Halfway in practice, DiBenedetto is quickest overall thus far.

Halfway

Halfway in Bristol final practice: 1. Matt DiBenedetto (14.892); 2. Ryan Blaney (14.962); 3. Martin Truex Jr (15.036); 4. Austin Dillon (15.047); 5. Chase Elliott (15.160); 6. Daniel Hemric (15.162); 7. Kyle Larson (15.162); 8. Erik Jones (15.176); 9. Joey Logano (15.180); 10. Denny Hamlin (15.201);

20 minutes remain, Ricky Stenhouse Jr was running the outside lane. He stepped in the gas and the backend stepped out. He made light contact with the wall on the right rear. That only saved the car from coming around. He shuts it off and heads to the pits.

“Lack of fucking stagger, lack of rear steer, lack of fucking anything,” Kurt Busch isn’t happy with his race car as he sits 28th on the board at one of his best tracks.

7 minutes remain, Ryan Blaney has an issue on the race track. The driver thinks he lost power steering. Some smoke comes out of the back of the race car.

Time has expired as NASCAR was cleaning up the race track. NASCAR has elected to add 12 minutes to the session. Joey Logano has already turned 100 laps in this session.

Matt DiBenedetto hangs on to win NASCAR final practice at Bristol Motor Speedway!
