Tonight, the 1.366-mile Darlington Raceway hosts the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. It’s the Bojangles Southern 500 in Darlington, South Carolina.

Darlington Raceway announced a sell out crowd. 47,000 NASCAR fans occupy the grandstands.

Heavy rains rolled into Darlington, South Carolina just 15 minutes before the green was scheduled to drop. Four hours later, they’re set to drop the green just past 10pm ET.

William Byron and Brad Keselowski trail the pace car ahead the the green. 367 laps of stock car racing is up next.

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 100 (1-100)

Green flag, they run even into turn one. They remain side by side off turn two. Keseloeski noses ahead with the outside momentum into turn three.

Lap 19, Kurt Busch is all over Keselowski for the race lead. He looks to the inside and clear, Kurt Busch leads.

Competition caution

Lap 35, the competition caution is out.

The field heads for the pit lane. Kurt Busch is first in and first off.

Green, Kurt Busch is clear at the flag stand. Byron has a push from Larson, he noses under Busch in the middle of the corner. Busch fights back on the top and holds the lead into turn three.

Lap 50, Kurt Busch leads William Byron by 1.2 seconds.

Lap 68, Garrett Smithley is loose off turn two and David Ragan gets into the back of him. Smithley is around and the caution is out.

Pit stops

The field heads for the pit lane. Chase Elliott picks up three spots and wins the race off the pit lane. Troubles for Byron as he loses 7 spots.

Green, Larson gives a huge shove to Kurt Busch on the inside. Elliott fights hard on the outside line. They run even off turn two and into turn three. Elliott leads off turn four. Kurt Busch side drafts him into turn one and Elliott holds him off again.

Lap 78, Kurt Busch has a run off turn four. He looks to the inside and clear. Johnson works through to 2nd.

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 100 (101-200)

The field heads to the pit lane. Kyle Larson wins the race off the pit lane!

Green flag on stage two, Larson gets the jump on the outside. Larson blocks Kurt Busch into turn one.

Chase Elliott is holding up Joey Logano just outside the top 10. Logano can get to his inside by Elliott holds him off around the top.

“Ok, he’s going in the wall now. Fuck this kid,” Logano radio.

Logano tags him lightly in the left rear and he’s through. Elliott tagged the wall lightly, premeditated contact.

Lap 141, Ryan Newman is around off turn two and the caution is out. Daniel Suarez tagged him in the left rear and sent him around.

“This #41’s got one coming,” Newman radio.

The field heads for the pit lane. Larson is first in and Kurt Busch is off first. Trouble for Larson as he falls from the lead to 13th at pit exit.

Green, Kurt and Kyle Busch run even into turn one. They trade side drafts down the back but Kurt Busch leads into turn three.

Lap 158, Corey LaJoie has a flat right rear. He spins and the caution is back out. He spins on purpose to bring out the caution.

Pit stops

Back to the pits they go. Kurt Busch is first in and Kyle Busch is first off.

Green, Kyle Busch is clear before turn one. Clint Bowyer follows him through in the outside to take 2nd.

Lap 172, Joey Logano has a flat right rear. He coasts to the pit lane under green. Martin Truex Jr follows soon after with a loose wheel.

3 to go in stage two, BJ McLeod is slow after Matt Tifft pinched him into the wall. The yellow is out.

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 167 (201-367)

The field returns to the pit lane. Kyle Busch is first in and first off.

Green flag on stage three, Kyle Busch gets the jump and he’s clear before the flag stand.

Lap 249, Keselowski misses the pit entrance as he attempts a green flag stop. He returns the following lap to complete the stop.

Lap 258, Kyle Busch pits from the race lead. He cycles back to the race lead.

94 to go, big crash! Daniel Hemric blew a tire and come down to collect Michael McDowell. Hamlin, Byron, Kurt Busch and collected damage. Jimmie Johnson was hard on the brakes and nearly avoided it.

Pit stops

The field heads to the pit lane. Kyle Busch is first in but Larson wins the race to the pit exit.

Green flag, Larson is clear to the bottom in turn one. He rolls up to the wall and Jones fills the hole under him. Larson crosses him to retake the lead.

Erik Jones drives deep into the next corner and slides across the nose of Larson, clear. Erik Jones leads.

72 to go, Larson is all over the bumper of Erik Jones for the race lead. Kyle Busch is running them both down.

Pit cycle

46 to go, Erik Jones and Kyle Larson pit under green. 41 to go, Erik Jones cycles back to the lead. Kyle Busch runs 2nd.

25 to go, Erik Jones leads Kyle Busch by two car lengths.

The leaders race through lap traffic. Erik Jones opens the gap.

6 to go, Erik Jones continues to lead. Kyle Busch can get close but he fades as he gets into the dirty air. Erik Jones brushes the wall off turn four but holds the lead.

3 to go, Kyle Busch tags the wall off turn two. Erik Jones opens the gap.

2 to go, Kyle Busch is in the wall again and he has a flat tire this time. Kyle Busch is all torn up and the car won’t turn. So, he’s leaned it against the wall and remains on the gas. He’s using the wall to turn the car and get to the finish line.

Erik Jones wins at Darlington Raceway! The race is completed just shy of 2am.
