Texas Race Results: October 17, 2021 (NASCAR Cup Series)

NASCAR results from Texas Motor Speedway

Today, the NASCAR Cup Series unloads in Fort Worth, Texas. The 1.5-mile of Texas Motor Speedway is set to host the opening race in the Round of 8 for the NASCAR Playoffs. It’s the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500.

7 of the 8 playoff drivers failed pre inspection on their first attempt. Elliott was the only playoff car to fail twice and will drop to the rear for the start.

Laps: 105 (1-105 / 334)

Green flag, Larson leads on the inside lane with a push from Kyle Busch. Hamlin falls to 4th.

Lap 26, the competition caution is out.

Larson leads the field to the pit lane. Byron wins the race to the pit exit with 2 tires, Larson exits 9th, the first car with four tires.

Restart

Green, Byron leads into turn one. Big crash behind them! Bubba Wallace gets loose under Kurt Busch and spins off turn two. He spins across the track and 10+ cars are collected. Kyle Busch was able to jump on the brakes to avoid it. He returns to the pit lane to swap tires.

Green, Byron and Truex Jr run near even into turn one. They fight for space into turn three. Byron drives it deep to the inside in turn one, he slides Truex and blocks off turn two to hold the lead.

Lap 50, Chase Elliott has climbed from the tail of the field to 6th.

Lap 83, Larson is on the bumper of Byron in the battle for the lead. Larson enters high in turn one, he exits low and crosses under Byron to take the lead.

11 to go in stage one, Larson hits the pit lane for fuel only. Byron and others follow. Kyle Busch stays out and he’s going to try and make it on fuel.

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 105 (106-210 / 334)

Kyle Busch and the rest of the leaders hit the pit lane. He wins the race to the pit exit.

Green flag on stage two, Byron pushes Kyle Busch clear of Larson into turn one. Larson and Byron battle side by side for 2nd, Larson wins that battle.

Lap 116, Larson has a run on Busch into turn one. He nearly clears him but Busch hangs onto his right rear. A lap later, Larson finally clears him to return to the lead.

Lap 150, Larson leads Byron by 3 seconds.

Lap 154, Chase Elliott hits the pit lane with a vibration. He’ll change all four tires.

Lap 165, the caution is out for debris.

Larson and the rest of the leaders hit the pit lane. Larson wins the race to the pit exit.

Green, Larson is clear into turn one. Byron and Kyle Busch run side by side, Busch gets loose on the outside lane and Byron takes over 2nd.

Lap 200, Larson leads Byron by 1 second.

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 124 (211-334 / 334)

Larson leads the field to the pit lane. Larson wins the race to the pit exit.

Green flag on stage three, Blaney pushes Larson to the lead. Byron fights off Blaney to hold 2nd off turn four.

Lap 219, Kurt Busch pits under green with a flat tire. The team thinks they lost a valve stem.

Lap 250, Larson leads Byron by 2.1 seconds.

Lap 263, Christopher Bell pits with a vibration. This would be a very early stop.

Lap 275, Chase Briscoe blows a tire after brushing the wall and the caution is out.

Larson leads the field to the pit lane and the pit exit. Byron is off 2nd.

Green, Larson leads into turn one with a push from Keselowski. Reddick pushes Byron clear for 2nd then dives to his inside and tries to take the position. Reddick gets loose on the inside and falls to 4th.

47 to go, Byron is all over the bumper of Larson in the battle for the lead. Larson holds him off as Byron fades.

34 to go

35 to go, Joey Logano is up in smoke.

Larson and the rest of the top 5 stay out. Elliott pits with Harvick, Truex and others from outside the top 5.

Green, Reddick pushes Larson clear into turn one. Kyle Busch knocks Buescher into turn one. Buescher spins across the apron. Anthony Alfredo gets turned and he slams the outside wall. Alfredo comes to a rest on the apron but the car is on fire. Alfredo is able to climb from the machine but the red flag is out.

Green, Larson leads Byron as Reddick holds 3rd.

23 to go, Blaney, Hamlin and Harvick run three wide. Blaney bounces into Hamlin and the No. 11 has a tire rub.

22 to go, Byron loses the nose in dirty air and he chases it up the banking. Reddick drives under him to take 2nd away.

21 to go

21 to go, Hamlin spins off turn two with a flat tire! He goes for a long slide and makes light contact with the inside wall. The caution is out as Hamlin coasts to the pit lane with four flat tires after the slide.

Green, Byron pushes Larson clear into turn one. Reddick works to the outside of Byron but can’t complete the pass, Byron holds 2nd.

15 to go, Martin Truex Jr cuts across the nose of Daniel Suarez in turn four. Truex Jr over-corrects and slams the wall off turn four! The caution is back out.

Green, Reddick pushes Larson clear into turn one. Harvick gets into the back of Reddick, Reddick slides but saves it! Byron holds 2nd, Reddick 3rd.

8 to go, Reddick sidedrafts Byron into turn three and rubs his fender. Byron pinches him down and they make more contact. Byron holds 2nd as Reddick gets loose and falls outside the top 5.

6 to go, Chase Briscoe gets loose off turn two and Buescher tags him in the rear as Briscoe checks up. As they spin across the track, Hamlin is collected and the caution is out.

2 to go

Green, Keselowski pushes Larson clear into turn one.

1 to go, Keselowski and Byron run side by side for 2nd. They remain side by side off turn two.
