Kyle Larson opened the night posting 5th in Group B qualifying. However, it went downhill from there, in the the first heat race of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event.
Kyle Larson disqualified in heat 1
Zeb Wise and Kyle Larson were in a heated battle for 3rd. Wise went to the bottom in turn one. Larson hit the cushion and built a run through the corner.
As they exited turn four, Larson pulled halfway alongside. With momentum, Larson pulled near even with Wise down the backstretch.
It was too late, Wise came up, banging wheels with Larson. Wheel to wheel contact sent Wise sideways into the air.
The right rear of Wise hooked the wing of Larson’s machine, ripping it clear off the machine. Larson went into turn three with no-grip and nearly tagged the wall.
Behind him, Wise landed sideways and was sent into a barrel roll. The car flipped violently and the red flag was deployed.
Larson rolled from turn three to the turn four pit entry gate. Within seconds of Larson entering the infield, World of Outlaws officials declared that Larson is disqualified from the race for not stopping under the red flag.
The safety team quickly worked to the machine of Wise. He was able to walk to the ambulance.
