Racing driver passes in crash at Daytona International Speedway

One International GT driver dead and another is injured following a crash at Daytona International Speedway

On Saturday, a driver has passed following a crash at Daytona International Speedway. The crash took place during an International GT event at the Florida track.

Statements from International GT and Daytona International Speedway are posted below.

The name of the drivers has not been released. The second race for the International GT event is schedule for Sunday.

Daytona International Speedway: Statement

“We are saddened by the passing of a driver after they were transported to an area medical facility following an on-track incident during today’s Audi Club track rental session,” the track statement opened.

“Additionally, our thoughts are with the driver who was injured during the same incident. Daytona International Speedway will coordinate with both Audi Club and local authorities during their investigation into the cause of the accident.”

The cause of the race is not clear at this time.

International GT: Statement

The series has issued the following statement:

“We confirm the death of a driver who was transported to a local hospital after an incident during International GT’s practice session at Daytona International Speedway,” the statement opened.

“A second driver involved in the incident was also transported to a local hospital. Our deepest sympathies go to the family of the driver who has passed. We would like to give our well wishes to the second driver during their recovery.”

The International GT Series event scheduled to conclude on Sunday.
