William Byron points out issues with NASCAR’s Next Gen car

The driver who won the most races in 2023 is looking for changes to the Next Gen car

William Byron is not a driver that usually lands in the headlines for opinions of things throughout the industry. Refreshingly, he’s trying on a new hat.

Over the weekend, New Smyrna Speedway hosted a late model event. And it put on a show for the fans.

NASCAR currently has an issue with their product, on short tracks. The Next Gen car has created several issues as the bigger brakes, extra gear, larger tires and aerodynamic dependencies do nothing to help the short track product.

Multiple drivers have been speaking out on various issues. After this weekend, Byron has added his name to the list of drivers.

The 25-year-old claimed 6 wins during the 2023 season. That’s two more than any other driver.

NASCAR has been working on an aero fix. Goodyear has been attempting to use a tire that wears quicker. Behind the scenes, changes are in play.

William Byron compares late models to the Next Gen car

“You have battles like this on short tracks when tires/brakes etc give up,” William Byron stated via X of the Super Late Model race at New Smyrna.

“Mechanical parts of the car aren’t so good that you have to manage and can find something more to go get at the end. Fun battle.”

Byron was asked if he was throwing shade at NASCAR.

“Not shade. Just how I see it thru my experience.”
