Will Power bulldozes Kyle Kirkwood in wild practice incident (Video)

Watch as Will Power drives into the rear of Kyle Kirkwood during practice for the Detroit Grand Prix

On Friday, Indycar drivers unloaded for the opening round of practice ahead of the Detroit Grand Prix. As the track winds through the streets of Downtown Detroit, some areas are tight.

And Will Power didn’t care.

As Kyle Kirkwood showed ahead of Will Power, Power drove into his rear. He then pushed him out of the corner and into the next corner, no lifting.

Kirkwood nearly spun in the incident. And he lifted a fist above the aeroscreen as Power drove by to show frustration.

After the contact, Kirkwood voiced frustrations. He’s looking for Indycar to step in, likely referring to a penalty.

After all that, Kirkwood led the final practice session. Power also ended the session in the top 5.

Kyle Kirkwood comments

“I don’t know,” Kirkwood told Fox Sports.

“Everyone goes slow around here. The track’s not big enough to fit all the cars, and he got frustrated. Whatever, I guess.”

“Does it give him the right to push my car through a couple corners and almost cause a wreck? I don’t think so.”

“Malukas is right in front of me. Like, I can’t really do much. He’s just shoving me along.

“I’m not upset. I don’t care. We’re P1.”

“But, at the same time, I expect Indycar to do the right thing with that. I’m sure they’ll do something. Who knows what? I’ve never seen that before.”

“We got damage from that too. So, maybe we were even a little bit faster.”

Will Power comments

“I came around, and he slowed up in the middle and made contact,” Will Power stated

“So, I thought, ‘Well, I may as well get a gap now,’ so I just pushed him past the car in front, just moved him out of the way and got a really nice gap.”

“I thought, I’ve already touched him. So, I might as well keep pushing him and get myself a gap.”
