Kevin Harvick starts 9th at Homestead-Miami Speedway
Kevin Harvick was 4th in round 1 qualifying. He followed that up with 5th in round 2. But, round 3 is the important round. He found himself chasing the setup in the final round.
“Coming to the green and even getting up to speed, the car was just loose,” Harvick told NBC Sports. “I about spun out.”
“Not exactly how I wanted it to go. But, all in all, I think it’s going to be fine. It’s not like we’re 39th or somethin’.
“The good news is they didn’t get the pole and didn’t get the first pit box. That’s really what today’s all about.”
Harvick refers to Denny Hamlin knocking Truex off the pole. Hamlin took the pole in the closing seconds of the session.
Extra lap on his tires?
“I didn’t run the lap. No extra wear. I came to the green, so I got 1/2 a corner.”
Overcoming a 9th place starting position?
“Just do what we’ve done all year. You act like 9th is in the back of the pack,” Harvick walks off laughing.
Kevin Harvick will start last of the Championship 4 drivers. He will have the last pit box selection, of the other Championship 4 drivers.
