NASCAR notes L1 and L2 penalties in regards to qualifying

Weather is in the forecast for this weekend at Martinsville Speedway. In light of weather, NASCAR issued a rules bulletin to clear up some things.

The tie-breaker for the starting lineup in a rain-out situation is the number of wins a driver has accumulated in the previous season. Team owner points set the grid

A team cannot use a win with an L1 or L2 penalty. That win cannot be used to aid your starting position.

How NASCAR starting positions are determined when qualifying rains out

Trucks: 1-26th is set by current year owner standings. 27th is the previous year driver champion. 28th is the previous year owner champion. 29th is the previous year race winner. 30th is set by the team with the most attempted starts in 2018. The rest of the field is set by a random draw.

NXS: Position 1-30th in The NASCAR Xfinity Series field are set based on current team owner standings. 31st is the previous year driver champion. 32nd is the previous year owner champion. 33rd is the previous year race winner and owner. 34th is previous years car owner or driver. 35th is any other previous series champion. 36th is set by the most current year attempts to start an event. 37-40th is a random draw.

MENCS: The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series starting lineup is set by Team owner points in the case of a rained out qualifying session.

A little snow and a little rain are predicted for this weekend at Martinsville Speedway.
