Darrick York made it through the first few corners of the main event while in a battle for 5th. However, heading into turn 3, the throttle hung. York attempted to keep it up high and near the wall. But, there’s not much the driver could do.

Kyle Courtney was just ahead. He got into his left rear and spun him around. As that car looped, the car went up the banking backwards. This pinched York against the outside wall, the throttle was still stuck wide open at this point.

York climbed the wall then landed on the hill opposite of the track banking with no catch fence to prevent the decent. Without input from the driver, the car then accelerated down the hill and away from the race track. The car hit the flat in the pit area where it was catapulted on it’s roof. That’s when the throttle finally gave up.

“Lord was with us tonight. Carb stuck open. Drove threw Kyle into and over the wall and on to our top. I’d like to thank everyone who checked on me, and all the help last night. Eddie King Jr. thank you for getting the role back..!!!.. and Charles Tanner thanks for being there to get us home also,” Darrick York said in a statement.

“CVR car held up and did its job just like the rescue guys,” York concluded.

Darrick York and Kyle Courtney escaped the crash without major injury. The low budget team of Courtney Motorosports has plans to race at Smoky Mountain Speedway this Saturday night. There’s a lot of work to be done between now and then.

“The throttle hung on York. But thank god for CVR Race Cars. Both drivers were in CVR Race Cars by Chip Vineyard but we’re safe!,” the team said in a statement to RacingNews.co .

“We are repairing the car that was wrecked. We are a small budget one car team. So, we will have to work around the clock to make all the repairs!”
