Floyd Mayweather’s NASCAR team is finally making moves to join the sport
TMT Racing has been attempting to join NASCAR for several years. Two years ago, a website was listed with Homestead-Miami Speedway shown as the first race for the team but that didn’t come to be.
The website also showed a black and gold No. 50 car. At the time, the fifty was relevant as Floyd’s boxing career was 50-0.
Earlier this year, the organization became more active on social media. Specifically on LinkedIn where they regularly posted NASCAR audience data and noted they were searching for new partners.
TMT Racing spawned from Willy Auchmoody who purchased a licence of the TMT brand. He’s working with Mayweather’s business manager Brent Johnson to setup the new racing organization.
The Money Team Racing: 2021
According to Sports Business Daily, TMT Racing attempting to purchase a charter ahead of the 2021 season. They placed bids on two of them that became available.
Leavine Family Racing closed shop at the end of the 2020 season. Spire Motorsports took the highest big on that charter.
Germain Racing also listed their charter after the 2020 season. TMT attempted to big on that one as well but was outbid by 23XI Racing, the new team for Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan.
TMT Racing is now looking to partner with Spire Motorsports for 2021. The team would apparently co-brand one of Spire’s car in 2021. They would then plan to use one of Spire’s charters full-time in 2022.
The deal has yet to be finalized.
Spire Motorsports has announced that Corey LaJoie will drive the No. 7 car full-time in 2021. No announcement has been made for their No. 77 effort.
TMT would join a long list of new teams for the 2021 season. 23XI Racing leads the list of new teams as they have an alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing. Justin Marks is also fielding a new team and another will be formed by former NASCAR driver Matt Tifft who suffered medical issues and forced him to join the management side of the sport.
