NASCAR drivers react with disappointment to the style of Jimmie Johnson’s new racing suit
7-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson has retired from his full-time NASCAR career. For 2021, the driver is heading in an open-wheel direction via the Indycar Series.
Johnson is set to drive the No. 48 machine for Chip Ganassi Racing. The driver has sponsorship from Carvana.
Last week, Johnson posted the first images of his racing suit for 2021. It’s caught attention from his former NASCAR competitors.

Clint Bowyer: “Pants are too short.”
Chase Elliott: “Not mad, just disappointed in the choice of cut.”
-Johnson responded to Elliott: “Understood my brother.”
Kyle Busch: “Seriously?! You trader!! U didn’t take the boot cut to INDYCAR? Shame shame shame”
John Hunter Nemechek: “No boot cut… Come on man!”
Parker Kilgerman: “I’ve had both, when I drove open wheel cars the boot cut could get annoying in the way you’re positioned in the cars. No doubt NASCAR style is cooler tho.”
Chad Reed: “How’s it feel to see your ankles?”
The boot cut is a NASCAR style cut on the foot/leg portion of the suit. In Indycar and everywhere else, the leg portion of racing suits are tucked into the racing shoe.
In NASCAR and only NASCAR, the suits wrap around the outside of the racing shoes. As you can see from the album below, even the NASCAR officials are in on the boot cut.
