NASCAR Penalty Report: October 2021 (Charlotte ROVAL)

Charlotte ROVAL penalties announced; NASCAR crew chief suspended

Last weekend, NASCAR visited the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course. The Roval hosted the playoff races for the NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series.

There was a lot of drama at the Charlotte ROVAL. Kevin Harvick retaliated on Chase Elliott after their contact weeks ago at Bristol.

NASCAR has commented following the on-track altercation. They noted that “parking” drivers could be an option.

However, this time, no penalties have been announced for Harvick or Elliott. Yet, a total of four penalties have been issued following the weekend in Charlotte, NC.

Kyle Busch was found with two loose lug nuts on his Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 after the race. Per the rules, the crew chief has been suspended for one race and fined $20,000. Seth Chavka will fill the crew chief role this coming weekend at Texas.

Additionally, two more penalties were announced in the NASCAR Cup Series. Another single penalty was issued at the NASCAR Xfinity Series level.

Penalty: Crew chief ( Ben Beshore ) has been fined $20,000 and suspended from the next NASCAR Cup Series Championship Points Event

Driver: Denny Hamlin #11

Level: Safety

Infraction: Sections 10.9.10.4 – Tires and Wheels – Note: Lug nut(s) not properly installed.

Penalty: Crew chief ( Chris Gabehart ) has been fined $10,000.

Driver: Chris Buescher #17

Infraction Date: October 10, 2021 (Post-Race)

Level: Safety

Infraction: Sections 10.9.10.4 – Tires and Wheels – Note: Lug nut(s) not properly installed.

Penalty: Crew chief ( Scott Graves ) has been fined $10,000.
