NASCAR race results from the season finale at Phoenix Raceway

The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season is set to come to a close. The 1-mile track of Phoenix Raceway hosts the championship finale in Arizona.

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 75 (1-75 / 312)

Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott - Phoenix Raceway - NASCAR Cup Series

Green flag, Larson is clear into turn one. Elliott pulls even with him off turn two via the inside lane. Back into turn one, Elliott rolls the bottom once more and he finally clears Larson, Elliott leads.

Lap 7, Corey LaJoie spins Bubba Wallace into turn three. Wallace backs it into the outside wall and the caution is out.

Larson is one of the only lead lap cars to head for the pit lane. The no. 5 restarts 34th.

Green, Elliott leads Blaney into turn one.

Lap 15, Ricky Stenhouse Jr cuts across the nose of Corey LaJoie as they run three wide into the corner. LaJoie slams the wall and the caution is out. Stenhouse Jr was unaware they were three wide.

Pit stops

Elliott hits the pit lane with most of the leaders. Blaney and a few others stay out, as well as Larson. Elliott wins the race to the pit exit.

Green, Blaney clears Keelowski into turn one. Larson takes them 3 wide for 3rd behind them.

Lap 41, Kevin Harvick has climbed to the bumper of race leader Ryan Blaney. Harvick attempts to box him in behind a lap car but Blaney holds him off.

Lap 49, Harvick drops it deep to the bottom in turn one, he clears Blaney and Harvick leads. Blaney fights back on the outside lane to retake the lead.

As they run side by side for the lead. Martin Truex Jr closes on both of them. Truex Jr cuts the dogleg, passes both of them and takes the lead.

Martin Truex Jr cruises to the stage 1 win at Phoenix Raceway!

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 115 (76-190 / 312)

Truex Jr leads the field but Elliott wins the race to the pit exit.

Green flag on stage two, Elliott and Truex run near even into turn one. Elliott clears him via the outside lane off turn two.

Lap 120, Truex Jr has closed to the bumper of Elliott in the battle for the lead. Truex Jr has a run off turn two, he dives deep to the inside in turn three, Truex Jr to the lead.

Truex Jr has a better long run car as Elliott is better on the short run.

Lap 129, Quin Houff slams the wall with a flat tire and the caution is out.

Pit stops

Truex Jr leads the field to the pit lane. Once again, Elliott wins the race to the pit exit as Truex is off 4th with a slow stop.

Green, Elliott is clear into turn one. Larson follows him through on the outside and holds 2nd off turn two.

Lap 140, Ricky Stenhouse Jr cuts a tire and slams the wall, caution.

Green, Elliott and Harvick run side by side into turn one. Elliott holds him off via the outside, Larson follows him to hold 2nd once more.

Lap 155, Chase Briscoe lifts early into turn three as he has a flat left rear. Kyle Busch gets into the back of him and Briscoe slams the outside wall. The caution is out.

Pit stops

Elliott leads them to the pit entry. Larson wins the race to the pit exit. Four cars stay out, Reddick and Kurt Busch leads them to the restart.

Green, Larson and Elliott both cut the dogleg at the launch. Larson leads in turn two with Elliott all over his bumper as they fight for space off the corner. Light damage on the right rear for Larson but the rear quarter panel is bent outward, which will help him.

5 to go in stage two, Larson remains the leader as he runs the high lane. Elliott trails by a half second, glued to the inside lane.

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 122 (191-312 / 312)

Larson leads the field to the pit lane and the pit exit.

Green flag on stage three, Larson is clear into turn one. Hamlin works to the outside of Elliott but Elliott holds 2nd off turn two.

Lap 222, Larson leads Elliott by 1 second.

78 to go, Elliott has climbed back to the bumper of Larson in the battle for the lead. Elliott dives to the inside, they run side by side for the lead. Elliott finally clears him on the inside of turn three.

68 to go, Hamlin takes 2nd away from Larson, he ran him down from several seconds. Elliott leads Hamlin by 1 second.

Pit cycle

66 to go, Truex Jr heads for the pit lane. Anthony Alfredo blows a right front and slams the wall as Truex Jr sits on the pit lane and the caution is out!

That’s a huge break for Martin Truex Jr as he’ll be handed the lead. Elliott, Larson, Hamlin and the rest of the field head for the pit lane under yellow. Hamlin wins the race to the pit exit! Slow stop for Larson.

Green, Truex and Hamlin run even into turn one. Truex Jr holds off Hamlin in turn two.

31 to go, Truex Jr and Hamlin are driving away from Elliott and Larson.

30 to go, David Starr has lost a brake rotor and the caution is out for debris.

Pit stops

Truex Jr leads the field to the pit lane. Larson wins the race to the pit exit! +2 for Larson.

Green, Larson is clear by two car lengths into turn one. Truex Jr works to the outside of Hamlin and clears him off turn two.

20 to go, Truex Jr has climbed to the bumper of Larson in the battle for the lead and the championship.

13 to go, Hamlin runs 4th, last of the championship drivers. He’s moved high on the track and he’s found speed in the resin.

11 to go, Hamlin has a run on the outside. He gets to the right rear of Elliott and Hamlin takes 3rd away.

7 to go, Larson leads Truex Jr by 0.8 seconds.

3 to go, Larson maintains the gap.
