A new era in NASCAR
On Sunday, NASCAR opened their 2022 season on a 1/4-mile oval. The Busch Clash at the LA Coliseum was the first race on such a small track in several decades.

At the same time, it marked the debut of the NASCAR Next Gen car. The car is completely different than anything seen in more than several decades.
Next Gen is a spec chassis, identical from team to team. The car is designed to level the playing field from the super teams to the smaller teams while reducing the development costs for teams across the board.
When the green flag dropped on the Busch clash, the new car proved effective at all of the above. Justin Haley, the rookie driver for Kaulig Racing found hilmself battling in the top 5 for most of the day. Until ending his race in a spectacular crash.
Overall, the Clash at the Coliseum and the Next Gen car were a clear success.
Ahead of Sunday’s race, the president of NASCAR wrote a note to fans, welcoming them to a new era of the sport…

Steve Phelps letter to fans
“When the drivers fire their engines today at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, NASCAR will officially begin a new era, and the future of our sport will be on full display for our industry and fans,” the letter opens.
