The video was a nod to NASCAR legend Cale Yarborough
Dale Earnhardt Jr made his one and only NASCAR Xfinity Series start of 2022. That came on Friday night at Martinsville Speedway.
Ahead of the race, Dale Jr strapped into the machine to get fitted for a seat. As he did so, he was making engine noises. The video has been commented on several times throughout the weekend.

Dale Earnhardt Jr talks competing with the NASCAR Xfinity Series drivers
“I thought that I could get in these cars and compete any time I wanted,” Dale Earnhardt Jr told Fox Sports ahead of Friday’s race.
“But, you gotta do this every week. This ain’t a playground. This is the real deal.”
“You can’t just come up, show up and think you’re going to be able to run with these guys. You gotta do this, every week. Eat it, live it, breathe it.”
“I thought I was prepared when I got here. I wasn’t, they whooped me in qualifying. So, I think it just highlights how great these athletes are. I want to say kids but some of them aren’t kids anymore.”
“We know the Cup drivers are the best of the best. These guys are right behind them.”
Since he NASCAR Cup Series retirement at the end of the 2017 season, Dale Jr has made 1 NASCAR Xfinity Series start. He claimed a top 5 in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Race car noises like Cale Yarborough
Ahead of the race, Dale Earnhardt Jr posted a video to social media where he climbed into the seat and made race car noises. He further explained…
“Everything else about that tweet was true,” Dale Jr added.
“I only get to get fitted for a car once a year. You hop down in there, tug on the steering wheel and you lean on the headrest to make sure everything fits just right.”
“I only said that because I remember in like the 1983 Daytona 500, Cale Yarborough drives around the raced track — He win the race.”
“During his in-car camera footage of the race, he’s making engine sounds. They couldn’t figure out what it was, forever. They were like, ‘What is that noise! Every time we go to the in-car camera with Cale, there’s a noise.’ “
“They figured it out! It was him!”
Dale Earnhardt Jr concluded, “Who knew that Cale Yarborough was making engine noises, his whole career out there on the race track.”
