Kyle Busch hints at ‘Goodbye’ with Joe Gibbs Racing contract

NASCAR driver forwards pressure to team owner Joe Gibbs regarding contract renewal

Kyle Busch has spent the last 20 years of his racing career as a NASCAR Cup Series driver. 18 of those have been full-time.

The first 5 years of his career were spent at Hendrick Motorsports. In 2008, he signed with Joe Gibbs Racing and he’s been with the team ever since.

However, for 2023, MARS Inc. is stepping out on their NASCAR sponsorship. The private candy maker first joined the sport in 1998.

Kyle Busch’s NASCAR contract is set to expire soon as well. He’s yet to renew with the team.

Ahead of this weekend at Talladega, the NASCAR driver and team owner were both asked about a renewal. Busch got a little cheeky regarding his answer…

“Yesterday,” Kyle Busch comments on when he would want to know his plans for 2023.

“I’m not getting antsy about it,” Busch clarified.

“If it happens, it happens. If it don’t, it don’t. Goodbye.”

Busch last signed with the team in 2019. The length of the contract was not released but it’s hinted that the deal expires after 2022.

“Ask Joe Gibbs. It’s not my problem,” Busch said regarding his contract renewal status.

“The Truck Series is probably 95% kids with money,” Busch hinted that there’s a load of drivers willing to pay for a seat.

Ty Gibbs the the grandson of team owner Joe Gibbs. He’s in his debut season as a full time NASCAR Xfinity Series driver and already has three wins in 2022 after just 9 races.

“We’re confident we’re going to get things done,” Gibbs told Bob Pockrass.

Busch added, “So we’re just working hard at it. It takes a while.”

Kyle Busch is a two time NASCAR Cup Series champion (2015, 2019). He’s claimed 60 race wins in his career, most recently last weekend on the Bristol Dirt Track.
