They went rain racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway!
The Indycar Series drivers are on the grid in Indianapolis, Indiana. The track is wet and we’re set for a race in the rain on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

Race Report
Green flag, Power wins the race into turn one. Dixon takes them four wide into turn one deeper in the pack.
Palou has a run on the outside of Power as Newgarden looks to the inside, three wide for the lead. Palou wins that battle! Newgarden is off in the grass.
Back into turn one, Pato O’Ward has a run on Palou into turn one. He drives right by to take the lead.
Lap 3, Colton Herta hits the pit lane for slick tires. The track is still damp but it’s drying. Graham Rahal gets turned moments later.
Lap 4, Pato O’Ward pits from the race lead. O’Ward exits the pit lane with Herta on his bumper. O’Ward struggles with cold tires. Herta gets completely sideways behind him! He saves it, runs him back down and drives right by. Herta to the lead!
Lap 5, Palou spins through the grass. He stands on the gas and climbs out of the wet grass on slick tires. However, he stalls as soon as he gets to the track. The full course yellow is out.
Green, Herta leads O’Ward back into turn one.
Lap 17
Lap 17, Alexander Rossi cuts down on Josef Newgarden as they run three wide with Jack Harvey to their inside. Newgarden gets turned as a result and he’s out of the race. The caution is out.
Lap 21, Rinus VeeKay spins through the grass. As he slides back across the track, Delvin Defrancesco slams into him. The caution is back out.
Lap 33, Herta pits from the lead for a new set of slicks.
Lap 36, green flag stops are still underway. Meanwhile, Dalton Kellett is stalled in the runoff area of the grass. At the same time, Scott Dixon is out of fuel on the pit lane.
Lap 37, full course yellow. Ericsson and Kirkwood have yet to pit. Herta restarts 3rd. Alexander Rossi pits for rain tires, everyone else is restarting on slicks.
Rain returns
Green, Ericsson leads into turn one as rain begins to fall on the track. O’Ward spins and collects Rosenqvist into turn one! The yellow is back out!
Kyle Kirkwood pits from 2nd for rain tires.
Green, Dixon looks inside of Ericsson as Herta looks to his outside. Three wide into turn one! Dixon gets his lap back. Herta drives right by Ericsson to take over the race lead.
The track is wet on the front stretch and dry on the backstretch. That’s bad for the cars on wet tires.
Lap 50, Rossi hits the pit lane for slick tires. That gamble didn’t pay off but the rain is still coming.
Lap 52, Herta leads McLaughlin by 5 seconds. O’Ward has returned to 5th after the spin on the restart.
Lap 57, Jimmie Johnson spins, stalls and the caution is out.
Herta leads most of the field to the pit lane. Mclaughlin wins the race to the pit exit. Rahal and others spin under caution.
Herta, Dixon, Rossi, Palou and others return to the pit lane for rain tires! McLaughlin, O’Ward and Grosjean are the only cars to stay out on slick tires.
20 minutes remain
This race is now a timed race, just 20 minutes remain.
McLaughlin spins from the lead under yellow, as they’re coming to the green. The green flag is waved off! O’Ward is handed the lead.
Green, Herta is on the bumper of O’Ward into turn one as the mist sprays heavy behind them. With rain tires, he drives right by. Scott McLaughlin spins, caution.
O’Ward pits from 2nd to install rain tires. He spins before he can get to the pit lane.
Green, Herta leads Pagenaud and Power into turn one.
4 minutes remain, Sato and Montoya tangle into turn one. They both keep it rolling.
3 minutes remain, Herta leads by 6 seconds.
2 minutes remain, Juan Pablo Montoya is stalled with damage in turn 12. The yellow is out and this race is over.
