Justin Marks explains why he’s not interested in joining the Toyota stables
Toyota is the least represented auto manufacture in the NASCAR Cup Series. Of the 36 chartered teams, just 6 of those are Toyota machines.
Toyota Racing Development has been attempting to add more cars to the mix, for awhile. David Wilson has been broadcasting that message in an attempt to find those new partners.
Toyota is looking to add more NASCAR teams for 2024
The most recent addition for them came via 23XI Racing when they joined the sport in 2021. The team owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin operates two full-time cars. They’re expected to move to a three car operation, though the timeline on that upgrade is unknown.
In an era of the Next Gen car, having numbers is important. The playing field is as level as it’s ever been. Having more eggs in the basket to try different strategies, in terms of setup development, is key.
Rumors have circulated that Trackhouse Racing is one team that could make a switch to Toyota. However, team co-owner Justin Marks has put those talks to rest…
Justin Marks comments on Toyota
“For Trackhouse, we’re not interested,” Justin Marks told Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.
“Our relationship with Chevrolet is so important to us. We’re key partners with Chevrolet. We’ve tethered ourselves to the trajectory, the commitment, to the passion that they’ve got for this sport.”
“They’ve obviously made a huge investment with their tech and innovation center in Concord, NC. Supporting their key partner teams, we’re one of there, that are the key partners.”
Richard Childress Racing and Hendrick Motorsports along with Trackhouse Racing are the key Chevrolet teams.
“It’s an incredibly valuable relationship for us. It’s a company that has never wavered in their commitment to motorsports, over decades.”
“My first car was a Chevy. I’ve got a lot of passion for that brand.”
“I think more Toyotas on the race track would be good for David [Wilson]. It just won’t be with Trackhouse.”
