Three NASCAR teams penalized at Richmond Raceway

This weekend NASCAR is racing at Richmond Raceway in Virginia. The track is a 0.75-mile short track.

Cars touched the track for the first time on Saturday. However, NASCAR Cup Series teams must pass multiple inspections before practice and qualifying.

Chase Elliott, Ross Chastain and Justin Haley all suffered from multiple inspection failures. Each team failed twice.

All three teams were able to pass tech on their third attempt through the line.

Per the rules, each team will lose a crew member who has been ejected from the speedway. They’ll also lose pit selection.

No Penalty

2 Failures
Crew member of NASCAR’s choosing ejected (crew member cannot be replaced). Additionally, the team loses pit selection.

3 Failures
Not permitted to qualify plus above penalty.
