Race Report

Green flag, Newgarden is clear before turn one. Benjamin Pedersen gets run over by Ed Carpenter behind them, caution.

Penalty: Carpenter has been handed a 30 second stop and hold penalty.

Lap 56, Pato O’Ward looks unside of Herta for 3rd. Felix Rosenqvist also squeezes inside and Herta drops to 5th.

Lap 59, Callum Ilott brushes the wall off turn two as Sato ran him wide, no caution.

Lap 65, Will Power and Scott Dixon are the last cars to pit. Newgarden cycles back to the race lead. Herta trails by 2 seconds.

Lap 69, Herta wiggles off turn four and O’Ward has a run. O’Ward takes 2nd away into turn one.

Lap 108, Newgarden and O’Ward have both hit the pit lane. O’Ward is on the bumper of Newgarden as they cycle on the track. O’Ward has a look to the inside but Newgarden throws a block to hold the spot.

Lap 122

Lap 122, Sato is in the wall off turn two, caution. Dixon is the only car that has yet to pit. As Dixon heads for the pit lane he brings Newgarden and others with him!

Slow stop for Ericsson. He pulls out of his stall and the left rear wheel comes off.

Green, Dixon leads Newgarden into turn one. O’Ward looks outside of Newgarden for 2nd off turn two. They bang wheels down the backstretch and Newgarden holds 2nd.

Lap 166, Newgarden pits from 2nd and he’ll have to pit one more time. Many others pit with him as there’s a mix of strategies in play.

Lap 196, Dixon and Grosjean head for the pit lane. They’ll both try to make it to the end from here. They’re the only cars on this strategy, everyone else needs to pit one more time. O’Ward cycles to the lead for now.

49 to go

49 to go, Newgarden suffers understeer in dirty air off turn two. He brushes the wall, no caution. Newgarden heads to the pit lane under green.

47 to go, David Malukas and Scott McLaughlin tangle as they run side by side into turn three. McLaughlin wiggles and nearly spins but he saves it.

39 to go, Dixon cycles to the lead. Will Power is on his taillights. Only 6 cars remain on the lead lap.

20 to go, Dixon leads Power by 0.5 seconds. Kyle Kirkwood runs 3rd, 20 seconds back of the leader.

Power and Kirkwood head to the pit lane. Dixon now leads O’Ward by 23 seconds.
