Kevin Harvick asked for an ownership stake to stay at RCR

NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick asked for part-ownership in RCR before moving to Stewart-Haas Racing

Kevin Harvick made his NASCAR Cup Series debut in 2021 with Richard Childress Racing. He took over the 2.9 car following the Daytona 500 crash that killed Dale Earnhardt. In just his third start, he went to victory lane.

Harvick remained with RCR until the end of the 2013 season. He picked up 23 race wins with the team.

In 2014, Harvick signed with Stewart-Haas Racing. In his first year with the new team, he won the NASCAR Cup Series championship.

Harvick’s career timeline could have been different. He recently spoke about the switch and what would have made his stay at Richard Childress Racing.

Harvick asked Childress to become a co-owner of the No. 29 car.

Kevin Harvick says he asked Richard Childress if he could become a team owner

“Love Richard Childress, love everything that he did for my career,” Kevin Harvick stated.

“I loved the people. I loved everything about what I was in. But, ultimately, it came down to that question.”

“If I win one [a championship], I stay. But, the interesting part about that, I would have stayed for another reason too.”

“I asked to be part-owner of the No. 29 car. Ultimately, they didn’t agree to that.”

“I wanted to be more involved in the daily things that happened. But, I would have stayed for that too.”

Harvick retired for the NASCAR Cup Series following the 2023 season.
