NASCAR issues penalties ahead of Rockingham Speedway

1/3 of the field has been penalized ahead of the race at Rockingham Speedway

This weekend, NASCAR returns to Rockingham Speedway. The 0.94-mile hosts the NASCAR O’Reilly Series as well as Truck Series.

Teams have yet to touch the track as the race weekend is set to begin. On Thursday, the NASCAR Truck Series machines rolled through the technical inspection line ahead of Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions.

Jonathan Shafer has failed tech twice. The inspection line re-opens Friday morning for the team to make a third attempt through the line. No official penalty is announced until the team clears inspection.

Additionally, 13 more trucks have been penalized.

Failing tech inspection on the first attempt generally isn’t a penalty. However, these teams failed on their first attempt through inspection at two consecutive events, which is a penalty.

NASCAR has docked 10 minutes of practice from a 1/3 of the field for these consecutive inspection violations.

Teams penalized (parked for 10 minutes of practice): Brenden Queen, Justin Haley, Corey LaJoie, Clayton Green, Frankie Muniz, Timmy Hill, Layne Riggs, Kris Wright, Justin Carroll, Caleb Costner, Christian Eckes, Ben Rhodes and Tyler Ankrum

All of the teams above were able to clear tech on their third attempt through the line. For them, there will be no further penalty.

NASCAR Truck Series drivers will take the green flag in the race this afternoon.
