“Alright, when I get to the 54, I’m done with him. ****ing idiot.”
Update: NASCAR has penalized Ryan Preece
On Sunday, the NASCAR Cup Series raced at Texas Motor Speedway. There were multiple heated moments between drivers that could have consequences in the weekly penalty report.
Texas Race Results: May 3, 2026 (NASCAR Cup Series)
Ryan Preece was side-by-side with Kyle Busch at the 1.5-mile. The both slowed each other down as a result, Ty Gibbs had a run and he took it.
Gibbs made a late dive to the inside of both of them into turn one. They were forced three wide and Preece was forced to lift, giving up two positions.
Due to the loss in momentum, Preece then lost two more positions.
Ryan Preece radio
And on the radio, Preece lost it…
Preece stated over the radio, “What a ****ing idiot that kid is! He is so lucky his car is so ****ing fast!”
A few laps later, the caution came out. Preece collected his thoughts and unloaded on the radio button.
“Alright, when I get to the 54, I’m done with him. ****ing idiot.”
“It’s just, that car is so ****ing fast. ****ing pisses me off.”
“Stupid, I can’t… I’m gonna vent for 15 seconds. I can’t stand when idiots like him have fast race cars that they can do stupid shit and get away with it.”
“End of rant!”
Later in the race, Preece was back on the bumper of Gibbs. As they went into turn three, Preece drove it deep and into the bumper of Gibbs.
Gibbs was sent up the track and into the wall. It ended his day.
The crew came on the radio, “Everything good in there.”
Preece stated on the radio, “Yeah. Never touched him.”
Shane van Gisbergen was directly behind the incident. He saw it a different way as he told his crew over the radio, “Holy shit! He just committed a murder!” (Laughs) “It looks like he just full-throttled him!”
Ty Gibbs responds
Ty Gibbs heard the radio above after the race.
He responded via X, “Hmm, atleast he is honest.”
In the past, drivers would self-police on a regular basis. However, more recently, NASCAR has issued penalties for intentionally wrecking another driver. Any penalty would likely be issued today.
