Watch the video of the NASCAR crash at Dover Motor Speedway
Today, NASCAR Cup Series drivers are racing at Dover Motor Speedway. The All-Star Race pays $1M to win.
On lap 2, we saw a massive crash. Ryan Preece, Todd Gilliland and Kyle Larson ran three wide exiting turn four.
At the flagstand, Preece moved off the wall, down the track. It appears he wasn’t aware that he was three wide. Larson was hooked in the right rear and he bounced off the outside wall.
Preece was turned around backwards into turn one. At a high rate of speed, Preece backed it into the fence.
Immediately, the car caught on fire. Preece was able to get out of the car quickly.
A fuel fire in the Next Gen car is a very rare situation.
“What a hit. That is a massive left side impact right there,” Kevin Harvick stated.
“The way it pulled that left rear wheel around, it was in the wheel well pretty weird. I don’t know if it maybe pulled the collector tube off of it,” Clint Bowyer added.
Cars involved in crash: Kyle Larson, Daniel Suarez, Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, Todd Gilliland, Cole Custer, John Hunter Nemechek, Ryan Preece and Michael McDowell.

The race is ongoing.
Each segment is a complete reset. A lot of these cars will be able to repair and get back into the race. Backups cars are not allowed.
Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson and Ryan Blaney are the cars involved in the crash that are locked into the final segment of the race. After repairs, they would start segment three on the lead lap with the complete reset.
Ryan Preece comments
“I’m fine,” Ryan Preece stated after being checked at the care center.
“I don’t know what happened. I gotta see a replay. If anything, it was probably close on my part to go into turn one.”
“If it was my fault, I’m sorry. Tough way to not finish a race on lap one.”
