The former Bud Moore Engineering building caught fire and suffered catastrophic damage

Bud Moore Engineering was a NASCAR Cup Series team. The company opened in 1961.

The team was owned by mechanic Bud Moore. The team was based in Spartanburg, SC.

63 race wins were collected by the team during their era in the sport. Their final win came in 1993 with driver Geoff Bodine.

In 1997, sponsorship woes placed the team on a part-time schedule. The team had only a few handfuls of starts between 1997 and their close in 2000.

The team officially announced they had folded in 2001.

Converse College purchased the teams race shop. It has since been used for storage.

Earlier this month, a brush fire took place behind the building. The fire department was called and the fire was extinguished.

Late Monday night, another fire struck the building. A police officer spotted the fire and called it in to the Spartanburg Fire Department.

The crews worked for several hours to extinguish the flames. This time, the building suffered structural damage and collapsed.

“The building was found unsecured. There was no power to the structure and no gas to the structure. The structure was not being used at the time of the fire. There had been some reports of some vagrants in the area,” fire marshal William Smart told WSPA.

Dale Earnhardt, Darrell Waltrip, David Pearson, Donnie Allison, Benny Parsons and others all drove for the team over a multi-decade run in the sport.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
