The No. 42 car will have a new driver for the 2027 season
Silly season continues in the NASCAR Cup Series
Last week, it was announced that John Hunter Nemechek will depart Legacy Motor Club following the 2026 season. This change was made somewhat abruptly as previous sponsor announcements for 2027 included JHM in the release.
John Hunter Nemechek to part ways with Legacy Motor Club
Josh Berry has climbed his way from the CARS Tour to the NASCAR Cup Series. He initially signed with JR Motorsports for an O’Reilly Series ride in 2021.
The 35-year-old has spent the last three seasons as a full-time Cup driver. He made his debut in 2023 with Stewart-Haas Racing before signing with Wood Brothers Racing for 2024.
Earlier this year, Berry announced that he would be departing Wood Brothers Racing after the 2026 season. He’s detailed the search for a ride noting that some teams, “they asked for three million dollars” which he declined.

The search is over. Berry will replace Nemechek as the driver of the No. 42 car for the 2027 season.
