“Total lack of awareness on Corey Day’s part.”
Two weeks ago, Corey Day got into William Sawalich at Darlington Raceway. Sawalich picked up heavy damage in the incident.
The very next week, Day missed the bottom and ran into the door of Sawalich into turn one at WWT Raceway. They made more contact off turn two.
Down the backstretch, Sawalich turned left. He sent Day into the inside wall as a high-rate of speed.
Justified? Likely. But, retaliation is the only word for it and NASCAR has a penalty for that.
However, NASCAR Cup Series star Denny Hamlin is calling on NASCAR not to issue a penalty…

Denny Hamlin comments on William Sawalich and Corey Day
“Total lack of awareness on Corey Day’s part,” Denny Hamlin stated via the Actions Detrimental podcast.
“You gotta give the guys that’s pissed at you some more room, not less. He got himself wrecked for being an idiot.”
“NASCAR needs to let this one go. This has been a self-policing garage for a long time. You have to let drivers police.”
“When you look at penalties and things like that, you can’t look at the result. You have to look at the action. He doored him down the straightaway.”
Both Hamlin and Sawalich are drivers for Joe Gibbs Racing.
NASCAR reviews all incidents of this nature, in detail. They release a weekly penalty report on Tuesday or Wednesday.
