Dale Jarrett: “It also looked like the throttle was hung at the same time.”

On Sunday, the NASCAR Cup Series raced at Talladega Superspeedway. Their was a massive crash in the closing laps.

With 5 laps to go, Joey Logano was turned in the tri-oval off a light bump draft from Carson Hocevar. Logano bounced off the wall and landed on his roof.

As the field scattered, Riley Herbst was hooked. He made heavy impact with the outside wall. But, he wasn’t done.

After the first impact, the No. 35 car didn’t slow down as it began heading for the inside wall. It appeared to still be in the throttle as Herbst then slammed the inside wall.

The team stated over the radio, “We’re in it hard.”

They added, “Hold the brake. Hold the brake. Try to get it pointed. You’re going to hit again. Brake!”

“Are you alright? Talk to me. Talk to me please. You alright Riley?”

“If you need your breath just queue the button up so we know you’re good.

Herbst never responded to the team or pressed the button.

The team talked between each other, “We’re going to probably need medical.”

Listen to the team radio in the video below.

Herbst climbed from the car with help from the medical team. He was seen leaving against the car after climbing out.

Dale Jarrett comments, “That’s unbelievable. Jeff, you said it had no brakes. Which is obvious. But, it also looked like the throttle was hung at the same time.”

Herbst exited the infield care center with his left wrist wrapped.

“Yeah, I’m okay. Thank you,” Riley Herbst told USA Sports.

“It was a big one. Just thank you to 23XI, Toyota for the support. It’s been an up and down year, to say the least.”

“I thought we had a shot at it there at the end. We got shuffled out a little bit but came back. Ultimately, just got caught up in that wreck at Talladega.”

“My dad always said, ‘If you’re going to be dumb, you better be tough.’ So, cheers.”
