Riley Herbst and Joey Logano go for a wild ride in NASCAR crash at Talladega Superspeedway

Today, the NASCAR Cup Series raced on the 2.66-mile oval of Talladega Superspeedway. We saw a massive crash in the closing laps.

With just 5 laps to go, Joey Logano was turned in the tri-oval. He bounced off the outside wall and came back across the track in front of the field.

The car went upside down. The No. 22 went for a long slide on his roof.

Many other cars were collected. Riley Herbst took two major hits, one on the outside wall and one on the outside inside wall.

Cars involved in the crash: Austin Cindric, Brad Keselowski, Daniel Suarez, AJ Allmendinger, Chris Buescher, Chase Briscoe, Josh Berry, Joey Logano, Riley Herbst, Erik Jones, Ricky Stenhouse Jr, Alex Bowman, Carson Hocevar, Connor Zilisch and Shane van Gisbergen.

The NASCAR safety team was there in seconds. They used a wrecker to quickly flip the car back onto it’s wheels as Logano remained strapped into the car.

The driver was able to climb out on his own. Logano was then checked and released from the care center.

Joey Logano comments

“It looks like I just got a little push in the wrong spot there,” Joey Logano told NBC Sports.

“Then, it was at this moment it was very much like Talladega Nights, ‘Oh no! I’m upside down. This is not good.’ “

“I can’t thank the safety crew enough. They did an amazing job flipping that thing over.”

“The car did an amazing job. The last time I flipped it was crushed on my head. This time, I don’t think the roll cage crushed at all.”

Logano concluded, “Just happy to be alive.”

Herbst was checked and released from the infield care center. However, he declined an interview.
