Dale Earnhardt Jr is interested in taking a run with a bobsled and Team USA

Which Olympic sport is most similar to NASCAR?

Dale Earnhardt Jr is currently in PyeongChang, South Korea. He’s during some work for NBC regarding their 2018 Olympic Winter Games coverage.

Later this year, Dale Earnhardt Jr will take a new primary job via the NASCAR broadcast booth for NBC Sports. Ahead of time, they’ve been placing the former NASCAR driver in unique broadcast situations like the 2018 SuperBowl and now the Olympics.

What’s better than going really fast on four rubber tires? Well, nothing. But, going really fast on tiny blades is pretty cool as well.

Ahead of the trip, Dale Earnhardt Jr said he has interest in meeting with the Team USA Team. The women’s division of the US team grabbed a Silver Metal yesterday.

“Well, I’ve been talking to some of the bobsled guys on the US team, for a couple years,” Dale Earnhardt Jr tells NASCAR.com “About maybe riding in a bobsled.”

“That might be the one Olympic sport I’d say is the most similar to NASCAR racing or driving a race car. It’s certainly one that I’ve been most interested in, as a kid growing up and watching the Olympics.”

“They’ve offered me rides in the bobsled. I feel like the timing’s good. I don’t think that we’ll have an opportunity to do that while we’re in South Korea.”

“You know, those guys are going to have everything shut down, it’s going to be about competition. I wouldn’t wanna do anything that’s going to take their mind off what they’re doing. Even if the opportunity was there [during the olympics.]

“I can come back into the states in March and shoot up to Lake Placid or wherever they’re at. Have a fun day, when they’re able to relax.”

“It’s going to be a lot of fun. And I know some NASCAR drivers have actually done this recently. A lot of the Toyota guys were taken somewhere to run in a bobsled.”

“It looked like a lot of fun. I’m excited to see what that’s like.”
