Friday’s Lucas Oil Late Model event at Sharon Speedway postponed; Mansfield Motor Speedway purse increased
BURGHILL, OH (April 19, 2018) – The forecasted unseasonably cold temperatures along with a heavily saturated facility has forced the postponement of Friday night’s Steel Valley 50 at Sharon Speedway until Monday, July 2.
Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Director, Rick Schwallie said: “We’ve worked closely with the management at Sharon Speedway all week. We believe postponing the event is the best-case scenario for all involved. It’s not in anyone’s best interest to fight the weather. We look forward to an exciting weekend in July.”

The events at Hagerstown Speedway and Port Royal Speedway are still on as scheduled. The 37th Annual Stanley Schetrompf Classic on Saturday, April 21 will be a complete show with Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and a $12,000 to win, 50-lap main event. The Rumble by the River at Port Royal Speedway on Sunday, April 22 will also be a complete program, highlighted by a 50-lap, $10,000-to-win main event.
The Steel Valley 50 will join a trio of events on Independence weekend. The blockbuster weekend will kick off at Portsmouth Raceway Park (Portsmouth, OH) on Saturday, June 30 before heading to Mansfield Motor Speedway (Mansfield, OH) on Sunday, July 1. Sharon Speedway (Hartford, OH) will fill the gap on Monday, July 2 while Muskingum County Speedway (Zanesville, OH) will cap off the weekend with their traditional July 3 event on Tuesday.
Mansfield Motor Speedway Promoter, Cody Sommer has agreed to increase the purse for the Freedom 50 on Sunday, July 1 to $12,000-to-win, $1,000-to-start. This sets up an action-packed weekend with over $190,000 in total purse up for grabs. The weekend will include four complete programs of: Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and a 50-lap, $12,000-to-win main event at each venue.
