Tazewell Speedway results from May 4, 2018 featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series

Tazewell Speedway is set to host the touring late model series tonight in Tazewell, TN. The track is billed as ‘The World’s Fastest 1/3 Mile’ with banking unlike any other dirt track.

The Toyota Knoxville 50 will pay $12,000 to the main event winner. 50 laps around the ultra high-banked dirt oval.

The national anthem is underway. At the same time, light rain drops are falling on the speedway. They’re light, so we’re going racing.

Heat 1 – Report

Jason Jameson and Josh Richards will lead them to the green in the first heat race of the night. Green, Jameson tries to slide Richards in turn 1. He does, but it’s across his nose.

Don O’Neal slips under both of them. They’re 3 wide for the lead off turn 2 and down the back. All 3 at rubbing down the back. Richards almost gets turned into the outside wall. He catches it but Jameson is slill heading from the too to the bottom just before the entry to turn 1. Jameson catches it as well.

Gregg Satterlee and Vic Hill make contact just behind them. Satterlee over corrects or has major damage, the car heads dead right into the outside wall.

He pinches Lanigan into the wall who was trying to slip by on the outside. Lanigan climbs the wall, vertical but he lands back on his wheels. Bloomquist slides into Satterlee with heavy right rear damage. Satterlee and Lanigan are going off on the hook. The red is out.

Green, Richards is on the gas around the top. He powers to a 3 car length lead off turn 2.

Richards drives off to win heat race number one.

Heat 2 – Report

Dakotah Knuckles and fan favorite Jimmy Owens trail the pace truck in heat race number two. Green, Owens wins the race off turn 2.

Bobby Pierce pushes into turn 3. He makes light contact with Carder Miller but they all continue.

Jimmy Owens drives away to win heat race number two.

Heat 3 – Report

Hudson O’Neal and Tim McCreadie set row 1 in the final heat race of the night. Green, O’Neal slides from the bottom to the top in turn 1. He’s clear of McCreadie.

McCreadie cuts from the top to the bottom to try and come off turn 2 under O’Neal. Pearson has to check up and Shanon Buckingham gets into the back of the #1. Pearson gets sideways bit he continues.

Lap 1, the caution is out. Buckingham is slow down the front.

Green, Hudson leads into turn 1. MCreadie is hard on the gas and right with him. McCreadie might be faster but there’s no lane to get by. Everyone is using the entire race track. The dive from the outside wall on entry to the bottom and swing back to the wall on exit. McCreadie can’t get a nose under him.

Hudson O’Neal holds him off to win the final heat race of the night.

B-Main – Report

Satterlee, Lanigan and Buckingham are scratched from the B. Only 4 cars will start, they’ll all transfer.

Jeff Neubert and Mason Zeigler lead them to the start in the last chance qualifier. Green, Zeigler leads by 3 car lengths off turn 1.

Miller and Robby Moses swap lanes back and forth for 3rd. Zeigler drives away to win the b main.

Main Event – Report

Satterlee has gone to a backup car. Bloomquist, Lanigan and several others are undergoing major repairs ahead of the main event.

Josh Richards and Jimmy Owens will lead them to the start in the feature event.4 wide salute and we’re going short track racing.

Owens wins the race off turn 2 on the high side as smoke or fuel flies out the back of his car. Hudson O’Neal lost several positions in turn 1.

Lap 2, the caution is out.

Green, Jameson slides Richards for 2nd in turn 1. Richards gets him back in turn 4. Jameson slides him again back in turn 1. Jameson holds 2nd.

Lap 6, Jameson is coasting around the top side of the track. He has a flat left front. The caution is out.

Green, pile up at the back in turn 1. Miller, Eric Webber, Lanigan and more are involved. Bloomquist was hard on the brakes, he narrowly avoided it.

Green, McCreadie is putting pressure on Richards for 2nd. McCreadie is trying to get the drive under him on the bottom. Can’t get it done. Davenport lines up behind them as Owens drives away.

Lap 14, caution.

Green, Davenport is around McCreadie. Richards and Davenport battle for 2nd. Richards slides from the bottom to the top on exit, he may have clipped the wall or it’s a blown motor. Light smoke trails the #1. Richards is slow! The caution is back out.

Green, McCreadie and Owens battle for 2nd. Owens drives away.

Lap 40, Davenport and McCreadie are running down Owens as he catches lap traffic.

Lap 45, Owens is slow in turn 4. Smoke flies out the back and Owens hits the pit lane! We’re still green. Davenport inherits the lead.

McCreadie is there but he’s not close enough to make a move. Davenport wins at Tazewell Speedway!

“You gotta be on the rev limiter at this place,” Davenport says from victory lane.

The tour is at it again tomorrow night. On May 5, the tour will invade Florence Speedway in Union, KY for the 32nd Annual Ralph Latham Memorial.
