Tri-City Speedway: Results – July 13, 2018 – Lucas Oil Late Models

Tonight, the tour unloads across the river from St. Louis, Missouri. Tri-City Speedway is set to host the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on the 3/8-mile dirt track in Pontoon Beach, Illinois.

The track put some new dirt down over the winter. After the Summer Nationals event they decided to flip it and mix the new dirt with the old. They cut down 18 inches and mixed it all together this week.

Kyle Bronson is debuting a brand new race car tonight. He’s gone back to blue and back to Rocket Chassis.

Hot Laps / Qualifying

Earl Pearson Jr went quickest in hot laps. He was the only driver in the 14 second bracket. He turned a 14.960.

Josh Richards is quickest in qualifying. He turned a 14.798.

Heat 1 – Report

Josh Richards and Mason Zeigler set the front row in the first heat race of the night. Green, Richards leads into turn 1. He heads for the bottom.

Zeigler is under pressure from Tim Manville, he holds him off.

Richards opens up a gap on the field. He’s entering high in turn 3. He then makes a late apex off the bottom of turn 4. Zeigler has begun to run him down.

He closes a few car lengths but Richards wins heat race number one.

Heat 2 – Report

Tony Jackson Jr and Dennis Erb Jr trail the pace truck in heat race number two. These two drivers battled for the Summer Nationals win here last session. Erb took that win off the final corner.

Green, Jackson noses ahead at the jump. He slides up the hill, Erb is on the brakes. Hudson O’Neal and Tim McCreadie both cut to the bottom. They run 3 wide for 2nd. Erb takes the position off turn 2.

Several car lengths ahead, Jackson leads. McCreadie is running the cushion and chasing down Erb. He’s there, McCreadie takes 2nd on the outside if turn 4.

Heat 3 – Report

Scott Bloomquist and Earl Pearson Jr will lead them to the start in the final heat race of the night. Green, Bloomquist leads into turn 1.

Jimmy Owens dives to the bottom to battle Pearson for 2nd. Pearson fights back on the outside of turn 3. Owens takes the position.

Lap 2, Bloomquist slides up the hill in turn 3 with squelching tires. Owens closes quickly. Owens is all over the back bumper off turn 4.

Lap 4, Owens has a run into turn 1. Bloomquist drives is deep on the outside. He holds the position and drop to the bottom. Owens has to find a new way around.

Owens explores the surface but Bloomquist opens up a gap. Bloomquist wins the final heat race of the night!

Main Event – Report

Track officials have dropped some water on the race track ahead of tonights main event. No B main tonight, all 26 cars have qualified.

Josh Richards and Tony Jackson Jr trail the pace truck ahead of the 50 lap main event. The race winner will hit the road with a check for $12,000. 4 wide salute, fireworks and we’re off!

Green flag, Jackson takes the lead on the high side into turn 2. Richards slides from the bottom to the top on the exit of turn 2.

Zeigler has to jump on the brakes as Richards takes his line away. Bloomquist gets a run on both of them.

Bloomquist to 2nd in no time. Lap 4, Bloomquist is on the back bumper of Jackson. He’s looking for a hole on the bottom.

Bloomquist jumps to the top in turn 1. He gets a run off the corner but not enough to get to the inside in turn 3.

As Bloomquist explores the track, Mason Zeigler is there. Zeigler looks to the inside for 2nd. Bloomquist is back in the throttle hard, he defends the position into turn 3 and goes back to the bottom.

Lap 15, Bloomquist, Zeigler and Owens race through lapped traffic. Jackson leads by 10 car lengths. Pierce has knocked off the rear spoiler on the right rear.

Lap 18, Kyle Bronson is slow on the track. The caution is out and he heads to the pit lane. Bronson is back out. Bloomquist has to get a push start.

Green, Bloomquist can’t get going. Jimmy Owens takes over 2nd. Caution as Lanigan tags the wall.

Green, Jackson leads and Owens holds second. Bloomquist jumped back on track at the last second, he’s half a track back.

Lap 31, McCreadie, Richards and Pierce are in a hell of a battle for 5th. Richards is trying all lanes to get by McCreadie. Pierce is glued to the wall with light sparks flying. McCreadie holds the position as things settle down.

Meanwhile, Jackson is in heavy lap traffic. Earl Pearson takes the lead, Owens is through to 2nd. Jackson fades.

Earl Pearson Jr checks out by 10 car lengths. He cruises to the win at Tri-City Speedway!
