The CEO of NASCAR was arrested in the Hamptons while in possession of oxycodone pills
NASCAR issues statement on the arrest of Brian France
Brain France, age 56 was arrested in The Hamptons on Sunday night. The arrest took place at 7:30 p.m.
The NASCAR CEO was arrested for aggravated driving while intoxicated. France was arrested near Wharf Street and Main Street when he failed to stop at a posted stop sign.
Following a search of his Lexus, France was also found to be in criminal possession of a controlled substance according to the Sag Harbor Village (New York) Police Department.
France was held overnight. He was released Monday morning following his arraignment. The arraignment took place at the Sag Harbor Village Justice Court around 9:30am on Monday.
“Mr. France was observed operating a 2017 Lexus northbound on Main Street failing to stop at a duly posted stop sign,” the news release said. “Upon traffic stop, it was determined that Mr. France was operating said vehicle in an intoxicated condition.
“Upon search of his person, due to a lawful arrest, Mr. France was in possession of Oxycodone pills.”
Brian France has held the position of NASCAR CEO since 2003. Last year, Brent Dewar took over the position of NASCAR president.
The France family also operates International Speedway Corporation (ISC). Jim France is a chairman of that company. Lisa France Kennedy is the CEO.
NASCAR has a strict substance abuse policy. Under those rules, Brian France could be suspended and required to go through NASCAR road to recovery program.
Any announcement of a suspension would be included in the weekly NASCAR penalty report. Those reports are generally issued on Tuesday or Wednesday after the cars from the most recent race [Watkins Glen, NY] go through the NASCAR R&D Center inspection.

“On August 05, 2018 at 7:30Pm the Sag Harbor Village Police Department arrested Brian Z. France for aggravated driving while intoxicated and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree.”
