22nd Annual Indiana Icebreaker results from Brownstown, Indiana
Tonight, The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series unloads at Brownstown Speedway. It’s bullring racing for the national late model series. Tonight’s feature winner will leave Indiana with a check for $12,000.

The 1/4-mile dirt track in Brownstown, Indiana put on a thrilling show on the last go around. Bobby Pierce made a last corner pass on Jonathan Davenport to take the win in the Jackson 100. Will this one be as good as the last?
Scott Bloomquist will not be in attendance tonight. He was injured in a motorcycle crash earlier in the week. He will remain on the sidelines indefinitely.
Qualifying – Report
34 drivers are signed in for Lucas Oil Late Model competition. Josh Richards is quickest in hot laps with a 12.853. In 2016, Cody Mahoney set the track record at 12.728 seconds. They’re close today.
Brandon Sheppard is quickest in group A, he turned a 12.803. The hometown kid, Hudson O’Neal was quickest in group B with a 12.916.
Heat 1 – Report
Brandon Sheppard and Darrell Lanigan trail the pace truck ahead of the first heat of the night. Green flag, Sheppard gets the jump but Lanigan is hanging on his right rear into turn one.
Lanigan gets sideways into turn one! He slides down the track but saves it. He’s fallen to 4th. Sheppard leads off turn two.
Sheppard leads Tyler Erb by 5 car lengths after lap one.
Sheppard drives off to take the win in the first heat race of the night!
Heat 2 – Report
Jonathan Davenport and Devin Moran set the front row in heat two. Green flag, Moran gets the jump on the outside. It’s too good, false start.
Green, Moran leads into turn one once more. Davenport gets loose behind him. Pierce holds 3rd.
Moran is driving away from the field. Everyone runs the outside lane.
Moran takes the win in heat two!
Heat 3 – Report
Hudson O’Neal and Kyle Bronson roll to the flag stand in heat three. Green flag, Hudson leads. It’s a false start.
Green, Robby Henslsy is making up ground on the bottom. Hudson O’Neal dips the right rear over the lip. He loses the lead but gathers it up and claims it right back off the corner.
Caution. Green, Hudson leads. Owens takes 2nd.
Caution, two to go. Green, ONeal opens the gap in a hurry. He takes the win in heat three.
Heat 4 – Report
Jason Jameson and Josh Richards lead them to the starting line in the final heat of the night. Green flag, O’Neal has a run from row two on the bottom! He slides them all into turn one!
Meanwhile, Jameson dips his right rear over the lip. He nearly goes off the track and forces the outside lane to lift. Richards cuts hard left to avoid him, he misses him by inches.
With one lap complete, O’Neal holds the lead and Jameson will go to the rear as the caution is out.
Green, O’Neal leads Richards. The gap is maintained.
Both leaders are entering in the middle and swinging to the bottom on the exit for a late apex.
O’Neal maintains the gap. He takes the win in the final heat race of the night!
Main Event – Report
The $12,000 to win main event is up next! They line up for the 4 wide salute to the Indiana dirt racing fans. Brandon Sheppard and Hudson O’Neal lead them to the starting line in the 50 lap main event.
Green flag, Sheppard leads on the bottom. Hudson O’Neal works to his right rear off turn four but Sheppard closes the door and Hudson lifts.
Lap 8, Sheppard leads Hudson by 5 car lengths. Moran runs 3rd.
Lap 14, Sheppard is deep in lap traffic. They tangle ahead. The leader lifts and Hudson closes.
Don O’Neal is working on Moran for 3rd. He finally takes that position.
Lap 21, Bobby Pierce smacks a rut in turn one. He lifts it up on two wheels but saves it from going over. He only lost 1 position, somehow. The caution is out as debris came out of the back of Pierce’s machine. He heads to the pit area.
Green, Sheppard leads. Moran moves to 2nd and Davenport to 3rd. Hudson O’Neal fights with the balance and falls to 4th.
Lap 33, Jameson is around in turn one. The caution is out.
Green, Sheppard leads Moran. Davenport is on the bumper of Moran for 2nd. He looks to the inside in turn one. Davenport launches through the bumps. With both front wheels off the ground he gets into the door of Moran. Both drivers continue.
5 to go, Sheppard works heavy lapped traffic. Moran is closing quickly. The gap was 6 car lengths. It’s now just two.
Moran cuts to the bottom in turn one. He bicycles it and has to lift.
2 to go, Lanigan spins in turn one. The caution is back out.
Green, Sheppard leads. Moran holds off Davenport for 2nd. 1 to go, Moran is within a car length into turn three. He can’t get there.
