Edited NASCAR audio has made the words between the drivers crystal clear; Logano asked Hamlin to fight; Hamlin said yes
In case you haven’t heard, we had an altercation at the paperclip oval of Martinsville Speedway. The confrontation came at the end of the first race in the Round of 8 in the NASCAR Playoffs.
Several weeks ago, Joey Logano was multiple laps down at Dover International Speedway. He continued to race the leader, Denny Hamlin. As he was 20+ laps down, Hamlin was frustrated.
Last weekend, the two were in a side by side battle inside the top 5. Denny Hamlin ran him wide and pushed Logano into the outside wall on the straight-away.
Logano coasted around for several laps before the crushed fenders cut down a tire. Logano spun and brought out a caution.
After the race, Logano wanted to have a talk with Hamlin. He did.
Logano gave Hamlin a firm pat on the shoulder to end the discussion. That’s when Hamlin went after him.
Crew members got involved. Hamlin was pulled to the ground by Dave Nichols Jr. That crew member for Logano has since been suspended for the upcoming weekend.
However, most of the audio between the two drivers has gone unheard until now. This new video has been edited to filter out the background noise from the crowd which makes it crystal clear.
Denny Hamlin vs Joey Logano
Joey Logano: “All the way to the wall.”
Denny Hamlin: “No, I did see you.”
Logano: “Like I wasn’t even there. All the way to the wall. My right sides are up.”
Hamlin: “No, I knew you were there. But, I was trying to take all the space I could.”
Logano: “Just think about that in the future. I’m going to take the space, (Expletive)!”
That’s when Logano put a hand on Denny Hamlin. The crews then jumped into the scene and all hell broke loose.
Todd Gordon (#22 crew chief): “Stop!”
Logano: “You wanna fucking go?”
Hamlin: “I’m here. Yes! Yes! Come here.”
Chris Gabehart (#11 crew chief): “Just stop it. It ain’t going to be worth it. Listin to me. It’s not worth it.”
