NASCAR practice results from Auto Club Speedway
Today, Auto Club Speedway hosts two rounds of practice. The NASCAR Cup Series is set to touch the Fontana, CA race track for the first time this weekend.

Practice Report
Duration: 50 minutes
Auto Club Speedway is the 2nd oldest track on the NASCAR schedule. Second only to Dover, this 1996 surface is abrasive.
10 minutes in, Kurt Busch is working on a setup that can cross over the seams.
Issues for Kevin Harvick. He hit the track for a very short run and returned to the garage with power steering issues.
“Even on pit road it’s heavy, hard to steer,” Harvick radio.
20 minutes in, drivers are exploring all lanes of the track. Chase Elliott and other run the apron in turns three and four.
Matt DiBenedetto finished 2nd last week, a borderline win for that small team. But, the speed is legitimate as he returns toward the top of the times at the halfway point in this session.

Aric Almirola is sitting on jack stands in the garage area. As he does that, oil drips out of the rear of the car. The team says it’s just overflow oil.
There’s a lot of sand on the track. Part of that is the area and the other part is the cleanup from the NXS season an hour ago. A few teams, including Martin Truex Jr, are contemplating if the track is too dirty for qualifying trim.
5 minutes remain, Kurt Busch takes it to the track in qualifying trim. He’s 2nd to Bowman’s race run earlier in the session.
Alex Bowman hits the track in qualifying trim shortly after and further improves his time. Bowman has the fastest car, any way you slice it.
