Tonight, it’s the prelude to the North South 100 at Florence Speedway. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series have unloaded for a chance at $10,000 in the North South Shootout.

Tonight’s event is unrelated to Saturday night’s finale at the same track, it’s an event on it’s own. The North South Shootout main event will pay $10,000 to the feature winner, a teaser to Saturday’s $50,000 to win show.
Kyle Bronson and Jimmy Owens set the front row for tonight’s main event. Tyler Bruening, Hudson O’Neal and Tanner English are looking for series provisionals to start at the tail of the field.

North South Shootout
Main Event – Report
Drivers are looking at a brand new race track as they roll to the starting line. Track official dropped water on the top and the middle lanes then scratched it up and ran it in. The bottom was left alone.
Green flag, Owens gets the jump and he leads into turn one.
Lap 5, Owens leads Bronson by 10 car lengths.
Lap 10, most of the leaders are rolling right through the middle. Outside the top 10, McCreadie and Davenport are climbing the inside berm in search of traction.
Lap 15, Owens has caught the tail of the field. Bronson closes the gap as Overton slides Richards for 3rd.
Lap 16, Bronson is slow with an issue in turn four. The caution is out.
Green, Owens leads. Overton and Richards run inches apart into turn one and Richards wins that battle off turn two on the outside lane.
Lap 20, the top is coming in. Rice and Erb are the first one’s to find it. Marlar moves up there as well.
Lap 22, Rice slides Marlar for 4th. Marlar crosses under him off the corner. He slides him again, another cross.
Rice is brushing the wall every lap in turn three. Marlar finds the wall as well.
Halfway
Lap 30, Owens works heavy lap traffic. Richards and Overton close to within 5 car lengths.
Lap 39, Overton slides Richards for 2nd in turn three. Richards hangs onto his right rear and they make contact. Both cars are in the fence but we stay green. Moderate nose damage for Richards.
6 to go
6 to go, Overton has a look on the bottom in turn one. He pulls to his number but can’t compete the pass.
4 to go, Overton drives it deep to the bottom in turn one and clears Owens to take over the lead. Marlar looks inside of Owens as well, they run side by side off turn two for 2nd.
2 to go, Marlar is there. He’s beating on the cushion as Overton runs the middle and bottom.
Coming to the white flag, Marlar has a run off turn four! He crosses under Overton as he slides to the wall.
Marlar to the middle in turn one. He hangs there and forces Overton to delay his entry and puts him in dirty are at the same time. Marlar leads off turn two but he runs wide and brushes the turn two wall.
Heading into turn three for the final time, Marlar doors the outside wall on his own. Overton looks to the bottom and clears him with a slider.
Overton has no momentum off turn four. With ease, Marlar crosses under him off the final corner and wins the drag race to the finish line! Another thriller at Florence Speedway!
