Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series drivers battle for $75,000 to win at Florence Speedway

It’s the final night of the famed North South 100 in Union, KY. The half-mile of Florence Speedway is set to host the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

Report

Green flag, they run side by side into turn one. Hughes noses ahead off turn two via the outside lane.

Lap 2, Owens dives inside of Hughes into turn one. He completes the pass into turn three, Owens leads.

Lap 17, Owens has caught the tail of the field. Hudson O’Neal closes to his bumper in a hurry.

Lap 19, O’Neal has a run off turn four. He crosses under Owens and slides him for the lead into turn one. Owens crosses under him and takes the lead right back.

Lap 21, O’Neal has another run off turn four. Owens shuts the door and O’Neal crosses under him off the corner. O’Neal slides Owens for the lead into turn one and he holds it off turn two.

Lap 31, O’Neal makes contact with lap traffic off turn two. Owens has a look but he can’t return to the lead.

Lap 34, Chris Ferguson is around in turn one with help from Bobby Pierce, caution.

Green, O’Neal leads as McDowell, Owens and Pierce run three wide for 2nd. Light rain has begun to fall on the speedway.

Several cars tangle in turn four, caution.

Green, O’Neal leads as McDowell takes 2nd away via the outside lane.

Lap 40, McIntosh has lost a wheel and the caution is out.

Green, O’Neal leads McDowell off turn two. Pierce and Rice knock the cushion behind them.

Lap 44, Pierce has a run on McDowell off turn four. He crosses under him and slides him for 2nd into turn one.

Lap 48

Lap 48, Pierce has a look on the inside of O’Neal. He pulls even but can’t get the drive off the corner to complete the pass.

Lap 55, O’Neal and Pierce run bumper to bumper on the cushion as they work lap traffic.

Lap 58, Kyle Bronson slows with a flat tire, caution.

Green, O’Neal leads as Rice crosses under Pierce for 2nd. Pierce slides him back for 2nd. They cross again. Pierce slides him once more into turn three, Pierce holds 2nd.

Lap 66, Ricky Thornton Jr slides Rice for 3rd. He started 23rd.

Lap 70, Pierce is all over the bumper of O’Neal as the both knock the cushion. Thornton Jr closes on both of them as he rolls the middle lane.

20 to go

20 to go, O’Neal works lap traffic. Pierce drives it deep through the middle in turn one. Pierce slides O’Neal for the lead and he holds the spot off turn two.

Ricky Thornton Jr quickly takes 2nd away.

16 to go, Josh Rice jumps the cushion tags the wall and drops debris. The caution is out.

Green, Pierce leads Thornton Jr as Jonathan Davenport moves into 3rd.

13 to go, caution for debris.

Green, Pierce lunches from the cushion but it doesn’t work as Thornton Jr pulls even with him into turn one. Thornton Jr slides Pierce for the lead into turn one!

11 to go, Pierce slides Thornton Jr in turn three. He squeezes him off turn four! Pierce lifts and leaves just enough room for Thornton Jr.

They remain side by side for the lead into turn one. They fight for space off turn two, bang wheels and Pierce retakes the lead off turn two!

Tim McCreadie slows, caution.

Pierce leads Thornton Jr on the single file restart. He opens the gap, as he bounces the right rear off the outside wall.

Bobby Pierce wins the North South 100 at Florence Speedway!
