Fernando Alonso involved in road cycling accident

The team has issued a statement as the driver has been taken to hospital

Fernando Alonso has spent the last two season away from the sport of F1. In 2021, he’s set for a return.

Today, Alonso was involved in a road bike accident in Switzerland. He was taken to a hospital near the accident site in Lugano, Switzerland.

Various reports indicated that some of the injuries sustained included fractures. However, those have no been confirmed by anyone in Alonso’s circle.

Confirmed details remain brief. However, more details are expected on Friday morning following more medical tests.

Alpine F1 statement

Groupe Renault’s f1 team has been rebranded as Alpine F1.

“Alpine F1 Team can confirm that Fernando Alonso has been involved in a road accident while cycling in Switzerland.

“Fernando is conscious and well in himself and is awaiting further medical examinations tomorrow morning.”

The Alpine A521 car has not been released. A release is expected for early March.

F1 testing is scheduled to begin in Bahrain on on March 12-14, 2021.

Since Alsonso’s previous departure from F1, the driver has run sportscars, IndyCar and the Dakar Rally. He’s ran a private test in a Renault F1 machine in 2020 in preparation for his return.
