Race 2 – Report
Green flag, big crash mid-pack before the start finish line!
Fittipaldi gets into Bourdais and turns him across the track as the field saw an accordion coming to the starting line. Conor Daly ran into the scene and was sent upside down. 7+ cars are collected.
Green, Dixon gets the jump and leads Palou by 3 car lengths before the turn one. Jack Harvey takes 3rd away with an outside pass into turn one.
Lap 45, Dixon leads Palou by 0.6 seconds.
Lap 72, Dixon pits from the race lead. O’Ward joins him on the pit lane.
Lap 88, Dixon leads Palou by 0.7 seconds. Newgarden has taken over 3rd in the pit cycle.
Lap 115, Jack Harvey is up in smoke! No caution as he heads for the pit lane under green.
Lap 117
Lap 117, the caution is out.
The field hits the pit lane. Dixon leads Power to the pit exit.
Green, Dixon leads Power by four car lengths into turn one. O’Ward lokks to the outside of Rahal into turn one and he takes 3rd away.
Lap 131, O’Ward has a run on Power into turn one. He looks to the outside and drives right by! O’Ward to 2nd!
Lap 135, Graham Rahal runs high into turn three. He builds momentum off turn four and works to the outside of O’Ward at the start finish line. Rahal completes the pass into turn one and takes 2nd away.
Lap 140, Rahal closes right to the gearbox of Dixon, battle for the lead. Rahal has a run off turn four. He drives right by on the outside, Rahal leads!
Lap 152, Dixon has a run on Rahal off turn four. He looks to the outside, clear. Dixon returns to the lead.
Lap 175, the top three run nose to tail. Dixon leads Rahal and O’Ward.
Pit cycle
Lap 187, Dixon and Rahal hit the pit lane together. Dixon exits first with Rahal on his bumper.
Lap 189, Rahal looks to the outside of Dixon off turn four. He takes the spot but Pato O’Ward has jumped them both with his pit stop.
Lap 190, the caution is out as Rosenqvist has lost a wheel. Sato, Hunter-Reay and Ericsson have yet to pit.
The caution came out just as Newgarden completed his pit stop. Newgarden will take over the lead. However, Sato will stay out on old tires.
Green, Sato leads Newgarden into turn one. Will Power is taken three wide and pushed off line, he skates it up the track and brushes the wall, no caution.
47 to go
47 to go, Newgarden looks to the outside of Sato for the race lead. Inches between them but Newgarden takes the lead on the outside.
35 to go, Pato O’Ward is stalking Newgarden in the battle for the lead. O’Ward is riding and anticipating Newgarden’s car falls off on long runs.
25 to go, O’Ward has a run on Newgarden off turn four. He looks to the outside but can’t complete the pass. That pinches Newgarden’s entry.
24 to go, O’Ward has a run on Newgarden off turn two. He looks to the inside and clears him into turn three. Pato O’Ward leads at Texas.
10 to go, O’Ward leads Newgarden by 1.4 seconds. Rahal runs 3rd.
