Chandler Smith disqualified after NASCAR race at Watkins Glen

Smith failed post-race inspection at Watkins Glen International

On Saturday, the NASCAR Truck Series visited Watkins Glen International for the first time since 2000. The race was ended 11 laps short due to rain and Austin Hill drove to victory lane.

Chandler Smith tweeted after the race, “Hard hard fought day. But we’re past that and looking forward. We’re playoff bound.”

After the event, NASCAR officials have disqualified the No. 18 Kyle Busch Motorsports entry driven by Chandler Smith. The truck failed the height requirements after the race.

NASCAR made the announcement just hours after Saturday afternoon’s event.

The race was the last race of the regular season for the NCWTS. Smith qualified for the NASCAR Playoffs, a 10 driver grid.

Smith’s playoff spot was not impacted. However, his finish has been regulated to 40th.

Following the penalty, Smith still makes the Playoffs. Tyler Ankrum missed the playoffs by 10 points.

Smith is currently in his first full-time season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
