Grosjean ahead of the crash

Before he took the car out for a lap, he shared a video to social media from inside the car:

Romain Grosjean: “Today, we’re going to do a bit of a lap with the pace car. Look who’s my passanger, Ed Jones.”

Ed Jones: “Do you even know how to drive a manual?”

Grosjean: “I’m European, yes I do. Good Honda car, let’s see what we can do.”

Apparently, the stick shift isn’t a concern. It was the driving part that brought issues…

The lap went fine. It was getting onto the pit lane that caused the major issues.

As Grosjean entered the pits, he jumped the curb just before the speeding line. Upon jumping the curb, the car didn’t turn.

Instead, Grosjean went nose first into the tire wall. The car then rolled backwards onto the dirt.

As if it were Grand Theft Auto, Grosjean and Jones both jumped from the car and ran from the scene like they were in a video game.

The car in question was scheduled to be used as the actual pace car for this weekend’s race. It’s unclear if the car will still be used.

This is the second time in recent years that the Indycar pace car has crashed. Last time, it was during the 2018 Chevrolet Grand Prix in Detroit. The driver spun out over the bumps during caution laps.
