Tony Stewart partners with fiancee, Leah Pruett in new racing venture

Tony Stewart is a NASCAR Hall of Fame driver. These days, he owns NASCAR Cup Series and World of Outlaws teams.

As of today, there’s a new addition to the list. Tony Stewart is getting into the NHRA as a team owner.

The new Tony Stewart Racing drag racing team will field a NHRA Top Fuel car as well as an NHRA Funny car.

Stewart’s fiancee, Leah Pruett will pilot the Top Fuel machine. The couple announced their engagement on March 18, 2021.

The NASCAR Hall of Famer stated, “I want to do more than just stand and be a trophy wife standing beside Leah.”

Comments

Pruett currently races for Don Schumacher Racing in the Top Fuel division. She’s a 9-time winner.

Some of the equipment, parts and pieces will come From Don Schumacher Racing.

“I consider NHRA my home,” Pruett stated. “This is an opportunity for us to build.”

Matt Hagan will field a second car for the operation in the Funny Car division. He’s a three-time Funny Car champion.

NHRA president Glen Cromwell stated, “Tony Stewart, he’s the superman of motorsports.”

“I’m not a great spectator in any form of motorsports,” Stewart stated.

Stewart won 49 races in the NASCAR Cup Series. He retired from racing in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2016.

“No. Not right now. I’ve taken 10 runs in Leah’s car,” Tony Stewart clarified on whether he would drive.

Beyond race teams, Stewart is also the owner of Eldora Speedway as well as the All-Star Circuit of Champions racing series and the newly formed SRX Series.

The NHRA team will be in the same house as the dirt sprint car team. Their complex is located in Brownsburg, Indiana.

“I hope Leah understands that after we get married, we will not have any off weekends. Our off-weekends will be during the week,” Tony Stewart says of his busy schedule.

Stewart added, “I say it will probably cut my [racing] schedule back a little bit. But, I’m not ready to hang my helmet up yet.”
