NASCAR Truck race results from Martinsville Speedway

Today, the NASCAR Truck Series opens the race weekend in Martinsville, Virginia. The half-mile of Martinsville Speedway is set to host the final elimination race ahead of next week’s championship race.

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 50 (1-50 / 200)

Martinsville Speedway - NASCAR Truck Series

Green, Nemechek and Gilliland run even into turn one. Gilliland gets the drive on the outside lane off turn two, Gilliland leads into turn three. Nemechek falls to 3rd as he struggles on the inside lane.

Lap 29, Hailie Deegan has a flat left front after running three wide through the middle and being pinched. She pits under green.

Lap 40, Gilliland has caught the tail of the field. He leads Sheldon Creed by more than a straightaway.

Lap 47, Corey Roper locks up under braking and spins, the caution is out.

Todd Gilliland cruises to the stage one win under caution.

Gilliland leads the field to the pit lane and he wins the race to the pit exit.

Green flag on stage two, Gilliland noses ahead on the inside. He clears Nemechek off turn two to hold the lead.

Lap 66, Jack Wood spins caution.

Green, Gilliland and Nemechek run side by side into turn one and off turn two. 2 laps later, they remain side by side for the lead. Nemechek lifts off turn two and gives Gilliland the lead on the inside lane.

Lap 81

Lap 81, the caution is out for debris as a metal pipe in on track.

Green, Gilliland wiggles under braking into turn one but he still clears Nemechek off turn two.

Big crash behind them! Tanner Gray gets into the slower truck of Josh Reaume off turn four and sends him spinning toward the infield wall. Bret Holmes, Ryan Truex and several others are collected, caution.

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 100 (101-200 / 200)

Gilliland leads the field to the pit entry but Nemechek wins the race to the pit exit. Many stay out as they pitted under recent cautions. Nemechek restarts 11th as Carson Hocevar and Zane Smith take over the front row.

Green flag on stage three, Hocevar gets the jump on the outside and he clears Smith off turn two. Smith leans into his bumper in turn three and pushes him up the track. Smith drives by to take the lead. Hocevar shoves him back but can’t complete the pass.

Lap 116, Jennifer Jo Cobb is around, caution.

Green, Smith and Hocevar run side by side for the lead. Hocevar lifts off turn two and tucks in behind Smith into turn three. Hocevar gives him a shove but he can’t get under him, Smith holds the lead.

Lap 131

Lap 131, John Hunter Nemechek is in the wall and the caution is out! Nemechek bumps Austin Wayne Self. Wayne Self hooks him in the right rear into turn three and sends him into the wall. Nemechek is one of the Playoff drivers.

Green, Smith is clear into turn one with a bump from Stewart Friesen.

Lap 141, Chris Hacker spins, caution.

Green, Hocevar and Smith run side by side once more. Smith wins the battle on the inside lane.

Lap 148, Sage Karam is turned into the outside wall, caution.

Pit Penalty: Hocevar hits the pit lane! He’ll serve a pass through penalty for jumping the start.

Green, Smith and Corey Heim run even into turn one. Smith completes the pass in turn three. Friesen forces his way inside of Heim to take 2nd away.

43 to go

43 to go, Parker Kligerman is around with help from Sauter, caution.

Green, Smith Smith leads into turn one but Todd Gilliland hangs onto his right rear off turn two. Smith holds him off into turn three. Gilliland has slightly fresher tires.

28 to go, Gilliland leans on the rear bumper of Smith in the battle for the lead. Smith skates up the track and Gilliland drives under him to take the race lead.

23 to go, Johnny Sauter is turned by Parker Kligerman, caution.

Green, Gilliland clears them off turn two. Friesen works under Smith to take 2nd.

15 to go, Enfinger bumps and turns Crafton. Heim is collected and two trucks spin off turn four. The track is mostly blocked and multiple truck pile in with nowhere to go.

Sheldon Creed is forced to the pit lane to repair damage. He installs four new tires while he’s there.

Green, Gilliland leads as Smith clears Friesen to take 2nd off turn two.

4 to go, Dawson Cram clears himself on Corey Heim, not clear. Cram hooks himself into the outside wall and the caution is out.

NASCAR Overtime

This sends us into overtime. 2 laps to set the championship grid.

Green, Gilliland and Friesen fight for space into turn one. They both skate up the track, Zane Smith looks under both of them!

They run three wide for the lead off turn four. Friesen hooks Gilliland at as they take the white flag!

As they head into turn one, Friesen turns left to make door to door contact with Smith. The caution is out in turn one. But, Friesen spins with a damaged truck.

Zane Smith wins at Martinsville Speedway and clinches a spot in the championship race while in a must win situation.
